Jennie Hill enjoys
cooking of any kind but her
favorite recipes are those
for salads and cakes. She
also likes easy-to-make
recipes which are delicious
to taste but require little
preparation after a hard
day’s work.
The daughter of the late
Herbert and Mary Whitby
Hill, Jennie has always
resided in Shavertown and
graduated from Kingston
Township High School. Her
father owned and operated
Hill The Florist, now
operated by his son,
Herbert, Jr.
Following graduation
from high school, Jennie
entered the Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital School of
Nursing and after passing
her state boards worked in
the operating room at the
hospital until she accepted
the position as school
nurse, first at
Westmoreland High School
and then in the new Dallas
Senior High School.
While at the school, she
attended Wilkes College
where she received her
B.S. degree in nursing
education. Later, she
received her master’s
degree in guidance from
Marywood College.
Jennie finds that her
guidance education serves
her well in her position as
school nurse. She uses it
daily talking with students
on a personal basis and
helping them with many of
hangups.
She enjoys working
pleasure she derives from
needlepoint is evidenced by
the many chair seats,
pictures and pillows,
throughout her home. She
also has given many items
to friends as gifts.
She likes to refinish
furniture and recently
completed her Kitchen
furniture which had been in
the family for years.
She likes totravel and has
visited Mexico, Europe,
Aruba, Bermuda, and most
states in the United States.
Swimming is one of her
favorite leisure time
activities whether it is in
the ocean or the pool in her
yard
She and some of her close
friends enjoy searching for
gourmet restaurants and
return © to their favorite
dining spots numerous
times each year. Often they
go out for dinner first and
then go to the theatre,
either the Little Theatre, or
when in season, the
summer theatres in the
area. She also goes to New
York to see some of the
latest plays on or just off
Broadway.
During the florists’ busy
season, she helps her
brother and sister-in-law in
their greenhouses.
Jennie is interested in the
Bicentennial and is a
member of Kingston
Township’s committee. She
has been appointed
chairman of the Arts,
Crafts and Antique
Committee and they are
planning a disply sometime
during June. She and her
committee will be
searching for old items
from residents of the
township.
She is a member of the
Wyoming Valley
Philharmonic Society and
attends all of their
programs,
Jennie is also treasurer
of the Pennsylvania School
Nurses for this part of the
Commonwealth. She is a
member of Eastern Star,
and all educational
associations. Recently, she
was in charge of the First
Aid In-Service Education
program for teachers of the
senior and junior high
school.
She will appear on
Channel 44’s program
which is moderated by
Walter Mohr. She and Mrs.
Minerva Baiz, head nurse
in the Freedom
the train’s restaurant.

West Pittston
of Wilkes-Barre City
Schools will hold a question
and answer program on the
“School Nurse and School
Health Program.”
Miss Hill enjoys her work
as a school nurse-the
students, the people with
whom she works. “The
students keep you young,”
she said, ‘‘you have to think
young in order to
communicate with them.
They want you to do more
than hear them, they want
you to listen to them.”
Her days ‘at school are
filled with responsibility
and for that reason she
enjoys easy-to-make but
delicious recipes for dinner
in the evening. She shares a
few of these with Post
