class sponsored their
annual semi-formal
Christmas dance. The
Mary Duffy, Gina Major,
Barbara Kasakowski, Pam
Phillips = and Laurie
Dockeray represented a
selection by the juniors of
candidates from the senior
class one of which was to be
named Lake-Lehman'’s
Christmas Queen.
Chosen at random from
the tree by Sidney May,
master of ceremonies was
the name Laurie Dockeray,
who was crowned 1975
Lake-Lehman Christmas
Queen by Tracy Garinger,
president of the junior
class.
Miss Dockeray and her
escort Larry Pall then
danced the queen’s dance
in the elaborately
decorated ‘‘winter
wonderland.” Joining in
the celebration. were
approximately. 100 couples
dancing to the music of
Slave.
The lobby, decorated by
the junior class featured a
bridge as an entrance
crossing over a pond which
was trimmed in evergreen
with live goldfish. The gym
was based on a winterland
and a swing for the queen.
The members of the
queen’s court included,
Diane Godleski escorted by
Dwight Cummens, Mary
Duffy escorted by Nick
Colasti, Gina Major
escorted by Skip Bonham,
Barbara Kaskowski
escorted by Rick Stacey
and Pam Phillips escorted
by Tom Snell.
Dr. John Rothschild,
assisted by his daughters
Sarah and Rebecca
recently explained and
demonstrated the
historical and ceremonial
significance of Hanukkah
to the second and third
graders at the Dallas
Eelementary School.
Dr. Rothschild stated
that Hanukkah is a
celebration to
commemorate two
miracles in Jewish history:
the major miracle’ of ‘a
small group of men
overcoming a great army
to regain the temple and
the ‘minor miracle of a
small vial of oil burning for
eight days and nights
during the redidication of
the temple.
Today the lighting of the
menorah signifies the
celebration of religious
freedom and beliefs of the
Jewish people.
A very enjoyable
addition to the program
were the. latkes and
applesauce Dr. and Mrs.
Rothschild had prepared
for each child.

body of students from
Kiwanis
children
feted
Dallas Kiwanis Club this
week sponsored its annual
childrens night’ program
for ~childrenand’ ‘adopted’
children of members. The
event was held ‘at /Irem
Country ‘Club, during the
time slot “of ‘the regular
weekly meeting.
Approximately fifty young
people enjoyed the; eyent.
Chairmen of this Tow
traditional event were
Frank Hirleman and Ray
Washicosky anc they
arranged for a
smorgasbord type of
serving that included
favorites of the young. A
puppet show built around
the story of Rumpelstilskin
entertained the guests, and
of course old Santa Claus
himself also stopped by.
Songs of Christmas were
sung by the entire
assemblage.
President Ray. Hillman
presided at the meeting
which included a
preliminary report from
Chairman Walter Reberts
on the very recent
Christmas Dance. Women
of Kiwanis also met on the
same evening at Irem
Club, making it a sort of
‘family night’ for area
Kiwanians.

many homes.
Members of the Class of
‘76 will be visiting various
communities in the Back
Mountain area singing
selections of Christmas
carols. Any donations will
be appreciated.
Let us wipe out cancer in
our lifetime, please donate
generously is the class
project theme.
The idea for the caroling
came from senior Peter
Sharp.

The event was held last
Saturday and 12 Rotarians
on a Christmas shopping
spree arranged with the
cooperation of Pomeroy’s
Department = Store at
Midway Shopping Center.
Through club collections,
Rotarians raised funds to
provide each of the
youngsters with $15 in
spending money, although
Connor conceded that the
expenditure often came to
be considerably more as
the chaperones dug into
their pockets for
supplementary funds to
fulfill the needs that were
evident.
The Rev. Andrew
Pillarella, pastor of Trinity
United Presbyterian
Church and a Rotarian,
served as chairman of the
event, assisted by
Rotarians Francis Barry
and Mac McCartney.
