CLIPBOARD NOTES:
DAN DISTASIO told this
corner his
couldn’t believe
shenanigans going on from
Dallas players bikering
among themselves during
the game.
We've got to select the
Trojans as the most im-
proved team in the Valley
this season. They’ve pulled
off 4@ne surprises in
stung: GAR, Pittston
Area and trying Dallas???
This is one of the few
First place Wesley Citgo
men took 3 points from the
Dallas Shopping Center
men in the Crown Major
[League paced by

Second place Chris Sunoco

in the Tmperialette League
Trojan teams we've seen
that lacked a sound passing
game.
Meyers Coach Mick
for a superb coaching job
this season. We feel Mick
has done a refnarkable job
considering the number of
quality athletes he lost
from last year’s cham-
pionship team. Mohawks
are 7-1 entering this
weekend.
GAR??? Grenadiers are
currently 4-3 and many
observers felt that they had
by copping 3 points from
Gino’s Fairview Shoe
Store. B. Brobst set the
pace for the Arco girls with
176. Carmen’s Pizza took
all from Goodman Florist
to gain a game on the Arco
team. M. Ritts showed the
way, with 170. Dallas Dairy
girls dropped 3 points to
Joe & .Joe Repairs and
Lombardo Bakery shut out

In the George Shupp
L.eague, Irene’s Bar

everything from George's
Auto with S. Bonomo
knocking down pins for 562
and J. Guido rolling 214. R.
Jonomo came up with 589
and M. Sharok hit to help
back in August.
One of our pet peeves last
year and this is the in-
consistency in which NFL
are calling
how * skilled the ‘Stripe
Shirts’’ are with their calls,
but we feel they're inep-
titude is more evident with
each game.
There’s
been some
JIMMY CEFALO con-
sidering leaving Penn

only problem has been
getting his leg back 100
percent from severe ankle
injury. He admitted he’s
not in tip-top shape to us
recently.
On Dallas grid fan has
inquired if there is a
quality leader on the
Dallas football team???
why would they have co-
captains.
There’s a heap of
grumbling going on these

Maybe the Colonels were
a bit overrated---which it is
a habit of local sports fans
are inclined to do with
Here’s out top five grid
teams and we've got a tie
1 Dallas and
Meyers: 3. Valley West; 4.
Many football buffs are
wondering now if the
results would be the same
“if” Dallas were to play
Meyers again?
While "attending
Saturday’s Penn State--
Maryland grid game we
had opportunity to sit with
Pitt assistant Bob Matey
and listen to interesting
conversation between him
and scouts from North
Carolina State as they
compared notes on Nittany
Lions. One thing is for sure,
you can’t expect to run at
Penn State and win. If you
can’t throw the football
with some effectiveness,
you're in for a long af-
ternoon.
The Maryland-Penn
State game was the best
we’ve seen this year. The
contact was fierce. PSU’s
linebacker Greg Buttle is
without question, the best
we've seen in the collegiate
ranks. Maryland Coach
Jerry Caliborne deserves a
heap of credit for the
tremendous re-building
job he’s done. The Terps
lost 18 of their top 24
players from last season’s
ACC champs. This includes
his two kickers.
Lake-Lehman recorded
its second straight triumph
this season by downing a
tough ‘sticking’ Hanover,
14 to zip. Coach Rich
Gorgone said, ‘Our
defense played a for-
midable game, while our
execution was a bit ragged
on offense. We're pleased
Both Mark Kalish and
Mark DeCesaris ran with
abandon. Dave Mahle
made some notable blocks.
We can’t say enough about
Bob Cumens bolstering our

defense. He's a very steady
performer.”
Needless to say, Coach
Gorgone is concerned
about Coughlin
Dallas Coach Jack Jones
put his team through the
paces last week and is
hoping they will execute
better against a rugged
defensive team in Bishop
O'Reilly this weekend.
Delighted to hear that
Is receiver Jeff
Supulskii ig able to play. He

against Nanticoke Area.
Lake-Lehman’s Bill
Lavelle, a tough hitting
youngster, is back working
out but has lost a step.
Philly Eagles are a
pathetic lot these days.
They traded away the
future when they went for
Roman ‘Fat Five”
Gabriel. Why they aren’t
going. with Mike Boryla
we'll never know. Eagles
lack quickness, too. We
look for a coaching change

Dallas Coach: Jonest
predicted Meyers victory *
over Valley West. He said
by two TDs. Feels his team
could win by three over the
Spartans. We'll
know!
Already Rams, Dolphins,
Vikings and Raiders ap-
pear shoo-ins for playoff
berths in NFL.
The Wilkes-Barre
Central YMCA will pioneer
a totally new concept in
basketball programming
for young players this
winter with the unveiling of
the ‘‘Youth Basketball
Association.”
According to Rick Davis,
physical director at the
Central YMCA, “The YBA
is a brand new program
being initiated by the
YMCA and the National
Basketball Players
Association. The primary
goals of the program are
the values of education,
basketball = skills, and
teamwork.”
‘We plan to get started
with the actual playing of
games on Jan. 17.” Davis
noted, ‘‘but before doing
so. we will be sponsoring
various clinics through
November and December

at the YMCA. The first
clinic will feature Wilkes
mentor Rodger Bearde on
Nov. 8 and ensuing weeks,
we will be having Ed
Donahue of King’s, Jim
Atherton = of « Luzerne
County Community
College, plus many other
area high school mentors.”
The YBA program will
include three seperate
leagues for fourth, fifth,
and sixth grade elemen-
tary students. ‘We must
have a minimum of six
teams in each division to
begin,” Davis said. “If
interest of the young people
dictate, we could be
fielding as many as 10-12
teams in each division.”
