BRIDGETTE CORREALE
Did you ever have the
feeling that you didn’t
know if you were coming or
going? Two weeks ago,
while traveling to North
Carolina, our family app-
roached the welcome sign
to Maryland. After driving
through the state for
almost two hours, we came
upon another sign ‘‘Mary-
land Welcomes You.”
What we didn’t know is
that somehow, someway
we left Maryland, entered
Virginia then reentered
Maryland. That's not hard
to do considering you have
three children who have
been arguing since you
backed out of the drive-
way. In fact it is surprising
we did not end up in Calif-
ornia.
After speaking to half a
dozen people (all with
heavy Southern accents)
we learned that our 1974-75
road map was not up to
date. Route 70 South was
changed to 270 South. As
co-pilot in charge of the
road map and dispensing of
the lemonade, I was happy
to learn I didn’t ‘goof’ at
least not that day.
We traveled to Virginia
Beach and relaxed for a
day before hitting the
scenic highways. While
there, I stopped at a gas
station for what I hoped
would be an up-to-date
road map...it wasn’t. So
now I had two road maps.
At breakfast the
following morning I
measured the distance and
stated we had only 90 miles
to drive. Refreshed and
smiling we departed. After
driving 50 miles, Vin said
that either we were going
in the opposite direction or
that I figured the mileage
wrong. The map being part

of my body (have map will
travel).
I knew we were traveling
toward our destination, but
what I didn’t realize was
that the first map I was
using, the mileage rate was
14 miles to an inch and the
new map read 44 miles to
an inch. Needless to say, I
wan't strangled so we
continued our drive to
Atlantic Beach, N.C.
No, we did not see any
sharks, but everyday a
school of dolphins would
swim by and the first day I
saw the fins in the water, I
instantly lost my tan
thinking they were sharks.
That's also the easiest way
to lose weight.

This week neighborhood
children are enjoying
Vacation Bible school at
the Dallas Community
Church Route 415. Asked
our five year old son
George what he learned
and he began to tell us the
story of ‘‘Jacob and this
guy.” It seems Jacob got
tired and layed down his
blanket to rest when all of a
sudden a bridge, not like
the Verrazano Bridge, a
big wooden one, came
down from Heaven.”
Wished I had taped this
conversation and some
others for remembrance.
The children grow up so
fast and it’s a shame we as
parents don’t enjoy every
single minute of their
growing years. One con-
solation - it’s never too late.
