A young Dallas resident was
seriously injured last Friday after-
noon when the motorcycle he was
driving collided with a 1970 Chevrolet
at the intersection of East Center Hill
Road and Church Street, Dallas.
Jerome Juris, 50 Hilldonia Ave.,
Dallas, was traveling from Church
Street toward the Dallas Junior High
School when the car driven by Trudy
E. Gerchak, 150 Hemlock Drive,
Dallas, pulled out from the stop sign.
Juris was unable to stop and hit the
side of the car. The impact threw him
from the cycle into the upper part of
the driver’s side of the windshield. He
received serious injuries of the face
and head and was taken to Nesbitt
Memorial Hospital in the Dallas
ambulance.
John C. Urbanski, 14 Valley View
Drive, Pringle, witness at the acci-
dent, stated that Juris was traveling
toward the Dallas Junior High School
when Miss Gerchak coming from
Route 309 toward College Miseri-
cordia stopped for the stop sign and
when the cycle was about 20 feet from
the intersection, pulled out.
Dallas Township Police Chief Carl
Miers and Patrolman J. Gruver,
investigating officers, estimated
damage to the car at $600, and to the
motorcycle $1100. Both vehicles were
removed to Wesley's Citgo Station.
Juris is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Juris, Hilldonia Avenue, Dallas. He i is
married to the former Cathy Heffner.
Both are graduates of Dallas Senior
High School.

Patricia Gregory, board member,

Dr. Werkheiser, superintendent,
reported that he had received
numerous calls and letters
concerning bus transportation for
next year, most of them relating to
Haddonfield and Kristin Road. He
persons explaining that there would
be transportation. . ... .
William Helgemo, president of the
Dallas Education Association, asked
the status of the drug and alcohol
abuse program. Werkheiser replied
that he understood the application for
funds was ready to be submitted. He
explained that if the $10,000
appropriation was approved, a team
of five or six people would be
appointed to work with persons in the
school and community interested in
reducing drug and alcohol abuse. If no
one indicated interest, the money will
be returned to the government.
The 1975 Lehman Horse Show
Queen will be chosen at 9 p.m. July 3.
Contestants will be judged on beauty,
poise, and charm. Dani Ziegler, of
Crestwood, 1974 Lehman Horse Show
Queen, will be present to crown her
successor, along with last year’s 1st
runner up Diane McQuown, of Nor-
thwest.
‘Contestants will participate in the
annual parade which will start at 6:30
p.m. July 3 at Lehman Center Route
118, and continue to the Show grounds.
Children’s classes will precede the
beauty contest. Admission is free on
July 3.
Western and English style com-
petition will be held July 4 and 5. The
regular flea market will be held July
6. Proceeds help support the Lehman
Volunteer Fire Company.
Dr. George E. Gittens, special
assistant of mental health and
medical and psychiatric services in
the office of mental health and
medical services, Department of
Welfare, has been named acting
superintendent of Retreat State
Hospital, Hunlock Creek.
Dr. Gittens replaced Dr. John Roop,
who replaced Dr. Lidia Kopernik. Dr.
Kopernik = left as full time
administrator at the hospital in
December. Dr. Roop was her part-
time replacement.
Dr. Gittens will also serve in a part
time capacity, coming to Retreat
from Harrisburg two days a week. He

Paul Kelly in the hospital’s business
office.
Kelly said that nothing is really
happening within the hospital itself to
indicate the process of phasedown.
Dr. Gittens is overseeing the hospital
work, following past procedure,
according to Kelly.
