This week's brass ring for a free ride on the Back Country Merry Go Round goes to Karl and Helen Besteder of Centermore- land, who continued an annual custom in tidying up the grounds surround- ing the veterans’ honor roll in Centermoreland. The honor roll took on a spank- ing clean appearance with geraniums and dusty millers adding a Spring touch to the highly mani- cured lawn. Incidently, the flag flying from the mast at the Centermoreland honor roll is a new one and was donated for the honor roll by Mrs. Helen Jones of Centermoreland. It was the same flag presented to Mrs. Jones at the time of the funeral of her late son, John, who served for five years with the Army in World War II. ‘ United Methodist Women of the Carverton Charge met Tuesday. _Fanti’s Pond is a favorite spot for fishermen these summer days and nights. Numerous catches of scalico bass, blue gills and ’ catfish have been reported. He will return to one of his first loves - as a radio an- nouncer for Station WILK, Wilkes-Barre, for the summer, then will enter West Chester State College for his final semester of study for a teaching degree. A bible study discussion group began Tuesday evening in Centermoreland Methodist Church and will continue for six sessions on alternate Tuesday nights under the leadership of Rev. Richard pastor. Under discussion and study is “First © Letter To Timothy.” Next session is scheduled for Tuesday night, June 17. Interest in Little League baseball was running high as this edition went to press with Dick Hislop’s Orange- Centermoreland Yankees in a three-way battle for first half honors in the Robert Horlacher Memorial League. The Yankees ended first half play in a tie with Beaumont and Noxen and were participating in playoff games for first half honors after the team had amini- stered a second defeat to Beaumont to bring on the three-way tie. Yankees played Noxen on Saturday in the first game but it was called after three innings because of rain and was rescheduled for, Monday. Winner was slated to oppose Beaumont, which drew the bye, for first half honors. Mother and daughter communion breakfast will be held Sunday morning after the 9 o'clock mass.
