husbands of woman’s club
and picked up any riders
who had bike problems or
in a few cases were just
plain too cold and tired.
There were no serious
injuries or accidents
reported. One rider suf-
fered a sprained ankle and
was_given assistance.
TN first riders in,
finished the route in less
than two hours. The oldest
rider was Sterling Kitchen
from Shavertown, He is 78
pledged
years old and rode all 25
miles.
One man from Oak Hill
obtained $300 worth of
sponsors, the largest ob-
tained by any one rider.
The Back Mountain Police
Association donated $50 to
the bike hike and were
represented in the hike by
Officers Jim Tupper and
Doug Lamoreaux, both
riding the whole 25 miles.
The Dallas Mothers Club
sold sandwiches and hot
drinks at the high school.
Four hundred and fifty
riders of all ages rode in
the 25-mile Dallas Junior
Woman’s Club ‘‘Bike
Hike for the Retarded,”
Sunday despite cloudy
skies and high winds.
A total of $10,000 was
pledged by sponsors of the
5 participating.
Seventy percent will be
given to Luzerne County
Association for Retarded
Citizens and 30 per cent to
the Pennsylvania
Association.

wrestling coach at Wilkes
College.
More than 30 local
wrestlers are vieing for a
spot on the squad which
will meet the Polish Junior
National Champions who
flew into the United States
on April 13. The team,
which was brought into the
country through the
cooperation of the Ameri-
can Athletic Union, will
make six appearances in
Pennsylvania, three at
Pittsburgh; one at Clear-
field; one at Harrisburg;
and the one in Wilkes-
Barre.
The April 30 tournament
marks the first inter-
national meet to be held in
this area. Ed Ladamus,
Lake-Lehman ‘junior high
wrestling coach, is in
charge of the program
which is sponsored by the
District II Coaches
Association. He is assisted
by the Back Mountain,
Crestwood, and Hanover
Wrestling Clubs.
A banquet for the wrest-
lers will be held at Kone-
fal’s Restaurant, Ed-
wardsville, following the
meet.

Monday the Dallas
Mountaineers scored six
in the fifth inning to break
a 55 tie with Crestwood
and to win the game, 11-6.
The Comets fell prey to five
errors. Dave Fritzges
began the rally with a fifth
inning walk. Ron Heffner
walked and Jeff Supulski
singled to load the bases.
Gary Zumchak doubled
scoring two RBI's. Steve
Skammer doubled to bring
home two more runs. John
Reese singled scoring
Skammer and stole second
before Walsh singled him
home to finish the scoring.
Both teams scored a run
in each of the first three
innings. Crestwood’s Nick
Young opened the first with
a walk, was moved to
second on a ground out,
and reached third on
Kenny’s single before
scoring on a sacrafice fly
The Mounts won 11-6
by Gimbi. Dallas’s Jeff
Supulski opened their
frame of the inning with a

Dallas took the lead in
their half of the innings as
Zearfoss singled and stole
second. Walsh was hit by a

first on an error. Walsh
came home on a ground
cut.
The Comets rallied for
three in the third when
Gimbi singled with one out
Steve Skammer, left
handed sophomore, struck
out 14 to lead the Dallas
Mountaineers to a 4-2 win
over the Lake-Lehman
Knights. Skammer held the
Black Knights to four hits
and allowed only two free
walks to first.
Skammer helped on the
slugging end with a pair of
hits, one of them a triple.
Ron Heffner knocked out a
pair of doubles driving in
two runs for Dallas.
M. Kalish pitched for the
Knights. Craig Yanchik
Teeners
and Jim Mahon each
tripled for the Lake-
Lehman nine.
Kalish allowed 12 hits,
the Knights picked off four
from Skammer. Supulski
The Mountaineers scored
