On Nov. 27, the King’s Coll- Ed Donohue plays an exhibition basketball game against the National Olympic Team of Czechoslovakia. A concert will be played by the Glenn Miller Orchestra in the gym the night of Dec. 15. The concert is being sponsor- ed by Radio Station WBRE in Wilkes-Barre to note the stat- ion’s 50th anniversary. Glenn Miller, founder and leader of the famed orchestra, lost his life in the crash of a plane over the English Channel while with the Air Force during World War II. Interest is building daily in Northeastern Pennsylvania for the basketball game between the Monarchs and the team from Europe. The Czechs open- ed their tour with a game at Marquette University, one of the nation’s best college quin- tets in recent years. After gam- es in the Midwest, they go to / Louisiana and to Jacksonwille, Harvest Square Dance Attended By Hundreds The “Harvest Square Dance” recently held by the Gate of Heaven Parent-Teachers Guild was a notable success, attended by hundreds. Amidst a bright array of brightly colored shirts and western-style scarves, guests do-si-do’d and circled left throughout the evening, led by the popular local square-dance caller “Red’ Jones, who sent the country spirit ringing through the crowded dance floor, and did a splendid job in doing so. Mrs. John Luksic chaired the affair and everyone attending enjoyed a really “down-home” evening. Regarding the Dec. 15 Glenn Miller Orchestra concert in the King’s gym, the program man- ager for WBRE Radio is Joe Gries, who handles the play-by- play broadcasts of all games on the King’s court schedule, home and away. Glenn Miller’s Orch- estra was: a favorite of fans in the hard coal regions in the World War II era and fan clubs keep interest in the big band al- ive today. A native of Iowa, Mr. Miller was an athlete and played foot- ball, basketball, and baseball in his home state before making it big in the band business. Coach Donohue stated: “King’s College is proud to be two fine promotions of the game with Czechoslovakia and the WBRE anniversary concert featuring the great Glenn Miller Orchestra. We are certain that sports and music fans of north- eastern Pennsylvania will come to the King’s gym Nov. 27 and Dec. 15 to attend both attrac- tions.” : 2 Misericordia Seniors Will Present Art Show College Misericordia senior art majors Kathi Bovine and Jessica Lewis will conduct an art exhibit at the college from Nov. 22 through Nov. 25. On display in Kennedy Lounge will be a series of pieces created by the two students, re- presenting several art media. The exhibit will be open to the public from 8 am. to 9 p.m. daily at no charge. The formal opening reception will be held at 8, Saturday evening. The exhibit is the first of several scheduled by Misericor- dia art majors for the current academic year. Parent-Teachers Guild Plan Meeting Nov. 26 A meeting of the Gate of Heaven Parent-Teachers Guild will be held Nov. 26, at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium. Guest speaker for the evening will be Thomas Dombroski, chairman of the Ad Hoc Com- mittee for the new Back Moun- tain Medical Center. Mr. Dom- broski is also president of D & L Consultants and will speak to the guild offering some background on the new medical center to be constructed. This promises to be a most in- teresting and informative program and all parents are invited to attend. Kingston Class of '39 Plan Reunion Nov. 30 Final plans have been made for the reunion of the class of 1939, Kingston Township High School. The event will be held at the Irem Temple Country Club, Nov. 30. A happy hour between 6 and 7 and a class picture will be taken. Anyone who wishes a photograph can order at that time. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. A program will be presented following a short business meeting. The members are looking forward to meeting their classmate, Dr. Louris D. SPECIAL FREE One to a family A visiting committee of eval- uators from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools have recently left Wyoming Seminary, following the reading of a ‘very positive report,” according to Robert Klarsch, the Kingston prep school’s academic dean. The committee of 15 spent four days on the West Side campus evaluating the school on its performance and which include academic, philosophic, environmental and personnel categories. Mr. Klarsch noted that ‘the quality of teaching at Seminary was reported back in super- latives”” in the visiting com- mittee chairman’s initial report. The academic dean also reportes that the majority of re- commendations made to Seminary are identical to those school representatives included in a self-evaluation report that preceded the visiting evalua- tion. Annual Turkey Party Set at Gate of Heaven The Holy Name Society of Gate of Heaven Church will hold its annual Thanksgiving Turkey Party, Nov. 23. Twenty turkeys plus cash prizes will be awar- ded. William Kalinowski is chairman of the event. States Association will arrive at Wyoming Seminary within six to eight weeks. It will take the form of commendations and re- commendations. Seminary, which is presently accredited by the Middle States Association, will be easily re- accredited following the recent visitation, according to Dean Klarsch.
