ed over F. Siko in 3:11, and E.

superior, 14-2, win over F.
Weiss, to run the score to 19-0.
Doug Agnew, 126 lb. (LL),
added 4 paghits on his superior,

Meyers Mohawks defeated

the running for the league
crown.
The Knights jumped into an
early 9-0 lead, when 98 lb. S.
Klemunes (LL) turned over D.
D. Barbacci decisioned D.
Smith.
B. Oliver, 112 lb. (M), picked
up 3 points for the Mohawks by
outscoring J. Higgins 6-3, but E.
Nixon, 119 lb. (LL), gave the
Knights 3 points by besting J.
Gelb 3-2. .
Bob Hogan, 126 1b. (M), put
the score at 12-6 by taking D.
(LL), made it 15 by decisioning
R. Patrick, 9-4.
- It was the Mohawks’ match
from that point on, as D.
Cronauer, 138 1b., flattened Joe
Haczewski in 5:47, and C.
Greenfield, 145 1b., took a
superior 17-3 decision from G.

Price knocked down pins for

In the Ladies Country Lea-
gue, three teams are tied for the
lead, G.H. Harris, Daring’s
Market, and Grotto Pizza. Pizza
girls picked up 3 from Fashion
Vending; David Ertley took 3
from G.H. Harris; and Luzerne
National Bank earned 3 from
Daring’s Market. R. Gula con-
tinued hitting in the 500’s with
198 (513) and A. Hospodar wal-
loped pins for 178 (503). L.
Cyphers missed a 500 by two

The Mustangs took 3 points
from the Bears in the Offset
Paperback League to hold first
place. The Lions shut out the
Cubs; Pintos picked up 3 from
the Colts; the Leopards collect-
ed 3 from the Cougars; and the
Bucks earned 3 from the Wol-
ves. The Beavers dropped 3 to
the Panthers, and the Camels
lost 3 to the Mavericks.
High scorers for the men
were Dan H. 211, Howard B. 235
(594), Cornell 224, and Yenale-
vitch 229. On the distaff side, M.
Ritts scattered the pins for 175-
218 (552), N Whitesell ham-

Restaurant men.
Kazokas hit the pins for 225
(595) while M. Sharock Jr. wal-
loped the woods for a big 248-208
(645). Kritchen rolled a consis-
tent 584 series and Youngblood
tumbled pins for 209-208 (585).
Yenalevitch hit an even 200 and
Cornell hit 219.
In the Back Mountain Church
League,Dallas B shut out
Lutherans and Orange B blank-
ed Shavertown C. East Dallas
picked up 3 from Trucksville C,
Trucksville B collected 3 from
Orange A, and Carverton B took
3 from Trucksville A. Shaver-
town managed 3 from Carver-

Lake-Lehman Junior Varsity
matment won one meet and lost
one last week. The young
Knights defeated the Nanticoke
Jayvees last Wednesday 33-9
and in turn were set back 18-6
by the Meyers Mohawks.
In the Nanticoke meet, Shaw,
119 1b. (LL) decisioned the Tro-
jans’ Yandrawski 4-0 to ‘put the
Knights in front 3-0. Ungvarsky,
132 1b., (LL) was turned over in
3:16 by Sando to put Nanticoke
ahead 6-3.
The Trojans picked up 3 more
when 138 1b. Diddlebock was
outscored 4-3 by Oltra. Allen,
145 (LL) tied the score at 9 each
when he flattened Wingtol in
4:00.
Defeat Seminary Team
Valley West Mermaids
The Wyoming Seminary girls
swim team -went down to defeat
last week at the hands of the
Wyoming Valley West mer-
maids, 47-35.
The Spartan girls proved too
powerful for the prep school as
they started with a win in the
200-yd. medley relay and were
in front the rest of the way.
Hanlon was outstanding for
ing the 200-yd. individual med-
ley, the 200-yd. butterfly and
another first as a member of the
winning 200-yd. medley relay
team.
K. Schoenholtz, C.- Zinman
and S. Bell were the other out-
standing point winners for Val-
ley West.
Seminary’s J. Robinson set a
new school and pool record in
the 50-yd. freestyle with a time
of 26.8. Seminary also took first
and second in the diving contest
with Cindy Hansen coming in
first and Sally Nork second.
WVW Girl Swimmers
Defeat Bishop Hoban
The Valley West mermaids
took eight of the 11 first places
in their meet against Bishop
Hoban to win 92-78, at the Nanti-
coke pool.
C. Hanlon, C. Zinman, K.
Schoenholtz, and L. Schoenholtz
teamed up to take first for the
Spartans in the 200 yd. medley
relay. C. Hanlon and K. Schoen-
holtz won individual events,
Hanlon winning the 200 yd. in-
dividual relay and the 100 yd.
butterfly, and Schoenholtz tak-
ing the 50 and 100 yd. freestyle
events.
Gail Daniels took first. in
diving. Other Spartan mer-
maids winning were R. Green-
berg, the 200 yd. freestyle, and
E. Taroli, L. Schoenholtz, R.
Greenberg and G. Daniels in the
relay team.
E. McDonald won the 500
freestyle and J. Harron, the 100
back stroke for Bishop Hoban.
In a close race, Bishop
Hoban’s B. Waznik outtouched
LC. Zinman in the 100 yd. breast-
stroke. :
Dallas Booster Club
To Hear Mat Coach
Dallas Area Boosters Club
will hold a meeting Feb. 7 at 8
p.m. at the American Legion
Home, Memorial Highway.
Coach Larry Schuler and
members of his wrestling squad
will be present to explain the
changes in rules and to demon-
strate legal and illegal holds.
Parents. friends, and wrest-
ling fans are invited to attend.
Refreshments will be served
after the program.
Sutton, also 145 Ib. (LL) made
it 15-9 by pinning Kozloski in
3:18. Fox, 155 1b. (LL) took an 8-
7 bout from Whittaker to move
the Knights to 18-9.
The young Knights went
ahead 24-9 when Dragon, 167 Ib.
put Pizon on his back in 3:50.
Nemetz, 185 lb., (LL) contin-
ued the pinning streak by turn-
ing over the Trojans’ Giverson
in 3:57 and hwt. E. Weber deci-
sioned Plodwick (N) 6-5 to put
the final score at 33-9.
In the Jayvee match at
Meyers, Saturday night, the
Knights scored first when
Galka, 98 lb. decisioned Ziller 4-
2. Meyers put up 3 points in the
next bout by virtue of Morgan's,
119 1b., 4-1 win over T. Shaw.
With the score 3-3, the Mo-
hawks’ Karpovich, 132 1b., out-
scored Ungvarsky 6-1 to put his
team ahead 6-3. Traver, 138 Ib.
(LL) gave the Knights 3 points
by decisioning Pezzner 1-0.
- The rest of the bouts went to
the young Mohawks with
Morman, 138 lb., taking Diddle-
hock 2-1, Martin, 145 lb., upset-
ting Allen in 1:36, and Dwyer,
145 1b., outwrestling Sutton 5-1,
to post a final match score of 18-
6.
The Lake-L.ehman matmen
will meet Wyoming Area at the
Warriors gym, Feb. 6 and the
Coughlin Crusaders at home,
Feb. 9.
The Dallas Mountaineers
opened the second half of the
Wyoming Basketball League B
Division play by overpowering
the Lake-Lehman Knights, 86-
51.
Five members of Coach
Cicon’s squad ‘hit the double
from Lake-Lehman.
The Mountaineers led 44-28 at
the end of thé first half and con-
tinued to outscore the Knights
20-9 in the third and 22-14 in the
final period.
Dallas put in 16 out of 29 from
the free line with T. Considine
collecting 7 of the points from
the charity line. The Knights
made good 13 of 26 fouls, with V.
Styjewski top man, with four
free tosses.
G. Zumchak was high man for
the Mountaineers, ‘with 14; S.
-Meskers had 13; D. Fritzges,
13; T. Considine, 11; and B.
Sickler, 10. High for the Knights
was T. Bogdon’s 10.
The win keeps Dallas in the
lead with Crestwood, Wyoming
Seminary, and G.A.R., each
with 1-0.
Officials for the game were
Mat Himlin and George Gre-
garis.
The Mountaineers have two
crucial contests this week.
Tuesday night they play Wyom-
ing Seminary, away, and Fri-
day night, St. John’s, at St.
John’s.
Dallas Man to Serve
Up to 2 Years in Jail
Dale Jones, Lot 63, Valley
View Trailer Park, Dallas, was
sentenced by Judge Richard L.
Bigelow Monday to serve a jail
sentence of six months to two
years, effective Dec. 13, 1973.
The defendant must also pay.

Taken from Auto
A Dallas man reported the
theft of a stereo tape player and
cartridges to Wilkes-Barre city
police Jan. 30. Albert C. Wil-
hams, 29, of 1046 Memorial
Highway Dallas, reported that
his auto was broken into around
9:30 p.m., as it was parked at
the city Aquadome.
The tape player and eight
tape cartridges were valued at
$86.80. :

Wrestling League after flipping
Tim Reinhart of Wyalusing in
2:12 Saturday afternoon. The
Dallas grapplers defeated
Wyalusing at the Dallas gym,
47-11.
Dave Dierolf, 98 1b. (D), gave
the Mounts their first six points
by pinning Bob Monahan in
1:07. Steve Pinter, 105 1b. (D),
battled to a 1-1 draw with Denny
Barto.
Wyalusing matmen tied the
score at 8-8 when Bob Mangan-
ello was turned over by 112 lb.
Tony Wells (W) in 3:19. M
Cook, 119 lb. (D), lost a 7-4
decision to K. Johnson, which
were to be the last points the
visiting matmen gained as J.
Kasper, 126 1b. (D), outwrestled

in’ 3:48 to move the Spartans

a close 1-0 decision to Osop, and
the Spartans moved ahead 18-0.
The Spartans picked up

The young Mounts picked up
their first points when John Dal
Santo (D) upturned Tanner in
2:42. D. Kirshner, 138 lb., added
3 points by taking a 3-0 bout
from Elias and Rick Harrison
(D), ran the score to 12 for the
Mounts by outscoring Mishkel,
5-0.
Gary Ostrum (D), added 3
more by besting Hornick, 4-0.
With the score 21-15, Heavy-
weight Paul Levitsky dropped a
hard fought 3-0 bout to R.
Paciez. The bout was close with
the score 0-0 going into the third
period, but an escape and a
takedown gave Paciez 3 points
to win the bout and give his
team 24.

J. Swepston (D) took a 2-1 deci-
sion from the Spartans’ M.

R. Harrison in 2:28 to move the

(W) made it 24-9 by pinning D.
Kirshner in 2:23.
G. Ostrum added 3 points to
the Dallas score by outwrest-
ling G. Peterson 11-3. Those
were the last points for the
young Mounts as Harold Evans
was put to the mat by J. Snyder
in 3:59 for a final score of 30-12.
The Mountaineers will meet
nesday night, and Bishop
O’Reilly at home Saturday
night. Jayvee bouts begin at
6:30 p.m. Varsity matches be-
gins at 7:30 p.m.
Spartan Swim Squad
Outscore Valley West
Coach Damon Young's Spar-
tans defeated the Wyoming
Seminary natators for the first
time in the school’s swimming
history, in the meet held last
week.
The Wyoming Valley West
team set the pace for their 86-81
victory by winning the opening
relay with an excellent time of
1:56.3.
The Seminary team took the
200 freestyle and the individual
relay. The Spartans proved too
strong, however, in the 50 yd.
freestyle, winning first, third
and fourth places. The score fol-
lowing the 50 yd. freestyle was
31-29.
Highlight of the contest was -
West's Yasenchak’s new team
record in the 50 yd. freestyle
with a time of 24.3.
Other leading swimmers for
the Spartans were R. Sirota, J.
Gorman, R. Mital and M.
Shanus.
The Spartans’ next meet is
scheduled against the strong
Nanticoke team, at the Nanti-
coke pool. The Nanticoke nata-
tors are coached by Ken Young,
father of the Spartan coach.
