John F. Rosser, principal of
the Dallas Junior High School,
has announced that 93 junior
high students will receive
NEDT certificates. Thirty-two
students in the seventh grade,
33 in the eighth grade, and 28 in
the ninth grade qualified for
certificates of educational
development as the result of
their outstanding performances
Development Tests. These
certificates are awarded to
students whose composite
scores are in the top 10 percent
of their grades nationally.
The NEDT offers an imper-
sonal estimate of educational
development and provides in-
formation useful for present ap-
praisal and future planning.
The NEDT battery consists of
tests in English usage, mathe-
matics usage, social studies
reading, natural sciences read-
ing, and word: usage.

A ‘Rocket Derby” was held
by Cub Scout Pack 281, the bal-
sam wood rockets made from
kits the boys received from
Santa Claus at the December
meeting. Den winners were
given consolation prizes. Top
prize for the fastest rocket went
to Billy Rusin.
Marine Sgt. Larry Earl pre-
sented a plaque of appreciation
for the response to the “Toys for
Tots’ program to Cubmaster
Richard Rogers.
Greg Banks was inducted into
the pack. Awards were pre-
sented by Robert Rice to Robert
Appleby, silver arrow: David
Bump, bear; Ian Thomas, wolf;
Steven Drasnin, wolf and gold
arrow; and Chris Evans, bear,
gold and silver arrows.
Webelos leader, Walter Chap-
pell, had awards for the follow-
ing: Harry Dewey, outdoors-
man; Bill Helgemo, citizen and
traveler; Chris Banks, athlete,
aquanaut, artist and engineer;
David Purcell, John Gula, Mike
Kravitsky and Art Wagner,
scientist; Robert O’Konski,
scientist and athlete; Brian
Muldoon, outdoorsman; Nick
Stull, naturalist; and Walter
Bronson, forester and aqua-
naut.

The cubs will attend the
Dallas United Methodist Church
service Feb. 3 at 10:30 a.m. in
