Publication Col. Carl B. Olsen, of Trucks- ville, past commander of the 402nd M.P., P.O.W. Camp was recently presented the Meritor- ious Service Medal by Brig. Gen. Frederick A. Welsh, com- manding officer of the 79th Army Reserve Command. Col. Olsen was commander of the Wilkes-Barre Reserve unit from May 1965 through October of 1972, and distinguished him- self many times by his ‘“‘profes- sional ability, personal integrity and leadership,” according to Reserve spokesman. ~The Meritorious Service Aw cites him not only for ii but also for his performance while in command of the 402nd during the Hurri- cane Agnes disaster and the actual flooding. While on volun- tary flood duty, and after being ordered to assist in flood oper- ations, Col. Olsen and his subor- dinates were responsible for numerous individual rescues. The 402nd was in direct sup- port of the Nesbitt Hospital and Leader Nursing Home prior to and including their actual The citation states that “When his unit was ordered to assist in flood relief at Wilkes- Barre, Pennsylvania, he est- ablished long range objectives which contributed significantly to the successful planning and execution phases of the M.P. role of rescue during the actual flooding.
