What would Christmas be
without greeting cards? One of
my favorites this year is the
funny Santa who says ‘Peace
on Earth Good Will Toward
Men’ and on the inside of the
card ‘And Women”. Another
interesting one is the National
Rifle Association card for 1973,
which pictures a handsome
buck in a lovely snow scene with
the greeting, ‘To wish you
Peace, Joy, and Happiness at
Christmas and throughout the
New Year’. Over the years, the
ones I have liked best are the
bright green cards with
“Seasons Greetings’ outlined
in gold, or pictures of birds,
preferably red birds, (don’t ask
me why red) or funny Santas
sometimes playing golf or
tennis. Have you noticed that
people are creatures of habit.
They send the same type of
cards almost every year. Some
send pictures of their family,
others lean toward religious
sentiments, while still others
prefer the humorous cards. My
pet peeve, however, is the
beautiful card which arrives
from out-of-town friends, whom
1 have not seen in several years,
and bears a printed name. I just
wonder why they bothered if
they don’t care enough to write
a personal note.
For each of our readers this
holiday season, I would wish
you ‘‘Season’s Greetings, May
the holidays bring you pleasant
memories and much hap-
piness’’.
Santa Claus will pay his
annual visit to the children of
Jackson Township, Dee. 23 at 2
p.m., at the fire hall. He will
bring gifts, and refreshments
will be served to all children 12
years of age and under who
attend. The Jackson Township
Volunteer Firemen sponsor his
visit. His special helpers will be
Willard Wright Sr. and Frank
Fabian Sr. We hope all the little
kids in our neighborhood are on
hand to greet his arrival.
Virgil and Velda Miller are
really excited about their
Christmas visitors. Their son
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Miller and
children, Kerry and John, of
Redwood City, Calif., will be
visiting them. Also their son,

Road, will arrive home from

leaving to spend a month
visiting friends in England,
France, Germany, and
Belgium. Isn’t that an exciting
Christmas present? Her
brother, David, has transferred
to the Lehman campus of Penn
State University for his winter
term.
Mr. and Mrs. Austin Howard,
Sutton Road, will have as their
daughter, Karen, of Bethesda,
Md.
Betsy Turner, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Turner,
Sutton Road, is another lucky
girl. She is planning to spend
three weeks in January with a
group of her classmates from
Beaver College touring
nt rs

Betsy, a sophomore, will arrive
Dec. 20 to visit her parents for
the holidays. z
We do not want to forget to
wish Michael Havrilla, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Havrilla
a happy = birthday. He
celebrated his lucky number
seven Dec. 7 with a family
dinner party.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Shouldice,
Huntsville Road, certainly
enjoyed their Thanksgiving
visit with their son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Townsend in Westborough,
Mass. Now they are expecting
the Townsends and their son
Tom Shouldice, an instructor at
New York Military Academy, to
visit them for the Christmas
holidays.
We are delighted to hear that
Paul Wolensky, Chase Road,
has returned home after
surgery at Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital.
The Charles Cigarski family
of Chase Road will all be
together for the holidays. Their
daughter, Marilyn, and her
friend, Georgeanna Adams,
both of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.,
will arrive first, Dec. 23. Then

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Berger,
Hillside Road, are -expecting
their son, Tony, a freshman at
Hobbart College, Geneva, N.Y.,
to arrive Dec. 18 and their
daughter, Hope, a junior at St.
Lawrence University, Canton,
N.Y., to arrive Dec. 21 to spend
the holidays with them. Hope
will spend the month of January
at Colgate University where she
will take her inter-term cour-
ses. We were surprised to learn
from the Bergers that a vicious
pack of dogs on two occasions
recently had killed a total of 11
of their sheep. Also the Carl
Gabels, Chase Road, have had
sheep killed by a pack of dogs.
Both families have been ad-
vised by authorities to shoot on
sight any dog they see on their
property. So we urge everyone
to keep their pets securely tied
so that their pets will not be
mistaken for these destructive
animals.
A special happy birthday wish
to Joseph Levi III, Chase Road,
who celebrated his 13th bir-
thday Dec. 19.
Last Saturday he and his
classmates in the seventh grade
at Lake-Lehman attended a
birthday party given by the new
teenager’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Levi Jr., at their
home.
