ras Page Al4 by Sylvia S. Cutler Anything in the line of seafood literally “turns me on’! I think my all-time favorite is steamed clams, the tiny sweet kind, and the very next favorite is boiled lobster (broiling somehow dries it out). But very close after that is hardshell crabs and shrimp cocktail, in that order. Good hardshells abound in many places throughout the area, but the very tastiest I've enjoyed at Vic-Mar’s, Edwardsville, known everywhere for their superb seafood. I could pick for hours on their hardshells, missing not a morsel. My idea of heaven is a meal beginning with steamers, continuing with lobster, some crab cocktail, maybe some deviled clams, or clams casino, and hardshelis as dessert. And if anyone else at the table is enjoying another good dish, I love to share and taste. It’s a real fun evening when everybody orders a dif- ferent dish and everyone shares! The only place in town where you can get a Welsh Rarebit is Hottle’s. That is M-m good! Years ago there was a restaurant that served creamed sweetbreads, but that place is long gone. Where now do you find that delicate dish? Do you like Zita? The best around is at Piledggi’s in Kingston. : Fried chicken wings at Shady Rest Inn in Drums. Also a salad bar. Best shrimp in a basket at Long Branch Inn in Trucksville. Pasties who makes them best but church women? Are there Cornish pasties anywhere around? Russian potato pancakes. At Green Acres Dairy Bar in Wyoming. I enjoy eggplant in any form, and capinata is its best. Capinata can be found as an appetizer (sometimes) at Angelo’s in Hazleton, or can be bought at Calamata’s Grocery on Northampton Street, Wilkes- Barre. It’s expensive, so if you know how to make your own, you're in luck. (Give me your recipe, will you?) Perugino’s, South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, also has a variety of dishes you can’t find Their at- mosphere is also pleasant for lunch or dinner. Konefal’s in Edwardsville serves the very best seafood and Italian food around...their steamed clams are an inspira- tion. The new Chinese Restaurant moderate family-type Chinese restaurant that won't cost you an arm and a leg. The food is fair, but a meal can be had for as little as $3.25. Trucksville lukewarm. However, we have long needed a medium-priced Chinese Restaurant. they’d get the stove hotter, though. Kingston Corners serves cafeteria style, and one can choose from a variety of dishes. It’s one of the few places, with the exception of Percy Brown's, where you can get a grapefruit half, or fresh fruit like oranges and apples. The one very nice thing, Mrs. Iorio tells me, is they cook with the “low fat” dieters in mind...like using margarine and skim milk in their cooking. (I'm watching that so I was pleased to get poached fish, salad with no dressing, grapefruit for dessert, and margarine to go with my bread.) They serve good bread like rye, pumpernickel and hard rolls. The very best breakfasts can be found at Jim Haggerty’s on Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, for Wilma can fry an egg like nobody else. Even if you're watching your cholesterol, you can still have an occasional egg. They have a corn oil substitute to cook with, if you desire, which is excellent for dieters. People are more conscious’ now of health, weight, heart disease, and knowing where to eat what is important. And who wants to go through life without enjoying good food? Notice I've not mentioned desserts? If I’ve had an ex- cellent meal, clean, fresh, hot and well cooked and served, I don’t need or want dessert. And the best cup of coffee in town is at Elby’s, where else? Their Brawny Lad with raw onion has kept this gal going at her desk many a time. Delicious! : Women's Society Elects Officers The Women’s Society of the Dallas United Methodist Church recently met at the church to elect officers for the coming year. Elected were Mrs. Thomas Cease, president; Mrs. Clifford Garris, vice president; Mrs. Wilson Maury, treasurer; and Mrs. Ralph Brown, secre- tary. A social hour followed the business meeting.
