Reading the roster of ac- cepted stall applicants for the forthcoming season at Pocono Downs is like reading harness racing’s Who’s Who. Those accepted for the Pocono Downs 98 day meeting which begins May 18 and runs uninterrupted through Sept. 8 include Herve Filion, world- champion driver; Stanley Dancer, who developed Albatross, last year’s harness horse-of-the-year, and Super Bowl, the world’s leading three- year-old trotter last year; Glen Garnsey, who is custodian of the powerful Castleton Farm stable; Billy Haughton, whose extensive stable is among the nation’s best; and Roland Beaulieu, whose Romalie for three-year-old pacing fillies last year enroute to becoming the season’s world sophomore pacing queen. Filion, who broke his own record for the total number of successes in; a single season with 605 winner’s circle visits, has designated a stable of 25 horses for the Pocono Downs meeting. The world-champion Canadian has told Racing Secretary Ted Leonard that he will make other horses in his massive stable available throughout the season. Dancer, the Squire of New Egypt, will lean more heavily on the youngsters in his stable to carry his colors during the Pocono Downs meeting although, like Filion, he will have other horses available during the season.
