Publication ‘The Electric Company : } *o To Premiere i \ “The Electric Company,” the first experimental television series to combine en- tertainment and education in an attempt to teach reading basic skills to children, will premiere Oct. 25, at 5:30 p.m. over WVIA- TV Channel 44, through facilities of the Public Broad- casting Service. The show will be seen on 44 Monday through Friday in color. Built around a seven-member repertory company including comedian Bill Cosby and Oscar- winner Rita Moreno, the series will use vaudeville comedy routine, take-offs on soap operas and game shows, a rock music group composed of five youngsters (ages 12 and 13), electronic computer-generated on 44 graphics and animation in the 130 daily half-hour programs to be broadcast over the 26-week first experimental season. A year-and-a-half of research and testing as well as con- sultation with more than 100 leading reading experts went into the development of the experimental series, created and produced by Children’s Television Workshop, creators of ‘“‘Sesame Street,”” which starts its third season Nov. 15. In “The Electric Company,” the repertory company will dramatize the daily lessons, assisted by some of the most advanced electronic techniques available to television. St. Vincent's Mothers Plans Future Activities St. Vincent's Mothers Club of Plymouth met recently to for- mulate plans for the year’s ac- tivities. The Rev. Charles J. O'Donnell spoke of the progress being made for the centennial to .be observed by St. Vincent's Parish. He requested everyone take an active interest in gathering material of former activities and events for a book to be edited in the near future.
