PAGE TEN a Possible Termination in Sight For Police Answering Service Unless contracts for 24-hour ‘telephone answering service are signed in the near future by officials of Dallas Borough and ‘Kingston Township, the service for the police departments of ‘the two municipalities will be discontinued by Dallas Town- ship, whose facilities have been ~ used in the past by all three communities. Board of Supervisors, Dallas Township, agreed on the proposed termination at their meeting Aug. 3. Board chair- ‘man Phillip Walter stated he had tried to contact several officials of the two municipalities, on the matter, ‘but was unable to do so. He said ‘secretaries of Dallas Broough ‘and Kingston Township will be contacted and if contracts to share costs of telephone opera- tion are not signed, service will be discontinued ‘ immediately. The board concurred in changing officially the name of the police department from Back Mountain to Dallas Town- ship Police Department. The telephone number, 675-5251, remains the same. In other action, secretary Glenn Howell was instructed to write letters to Kenneth Rice and Leo Rutkowski, developers of residential areas, informing them that the practice of grading lots down to blacktop roads must cease. Supervisor Fred Lamoreaux, who is also roadmaster, said the developers are not leaving five- Bank Merger Approved By Currency Comptroller The merger between The First National Bank of Eastern Pennsylvania and First- Stroudsburg National Bank has been approved by the Comp- troller of the Currency. News of | the approval was released ~~ today by the two bank presi- dents, Thomas H. Kiley of First of Eastern Pennsylvania and Francis. R. Drake: of First- Stroudsburg. Consummation of the merger must be delayed thirty days in accordance with the comp- troller’s direction. The merger, which was previously approved by directors and shareholders of both banks is scheduled to become effective on or about the middle of September. ‘Merger is to be effected under the charter and name of The First National Bank of Eastern Pennsylvania - through an ex- change of stock in the ratio of 1.20 shares of stock of The First National Bank of Eastern Pennsylvania for each share of First-Stroudsburg National Bank. Trucksville Voters of Kingston and Jackson Townships may register at the Trucksville Fire House on Carverton Road, Aug. 16. Malak Charged with Assault and Battery Bail of $2,000 was set by District Magistrate Frederick W. Anderson for Donald Malak, RD 5, Shavertown, following a hearing July 28 on a charge of assault and battery. The charge, brought against Malak by Audrey L. Coolbaugh of Box 140, RD 1, Dallas, alleged that the defendant had assaulted Mrs. Coolbaugh at her home by throwing her onto the floor and then punching her in' the stomach repeatedly. The incident reportedly oc- cured at 6 p.m. July 22. At the hearing, Mrs. Cool- baugh testified that she had known the defendant two years; she refuted a statement by Malak that she had struck him. According to Kingston Town- ship police, vandals entered a car owned by John A. Smith, 100 Rice St., Trucksville, which was on the lot for servicing. The unknown persons proceeded to drive through the used car parking area, crashing into five other vehicles, all the property of the business. More than $4,000 in estimated damages were done, to a Plymouth, $75 damages; Camaro, $900; Impala, $500; Plymouth, $1,000; Chrysler, $350; and over $1,200 to the Smith automobile, which was smashed on both sides, the rear and the front. A slide camera, valued at $75, was taken from Mr. Snith’s car.
