EE TT YC mt PAGE TEN THE DALLAS POST, FEB. 25, 1971 DALLAS SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL by Nancy Fleming Jane Dominick “The Crucible” Tryouts for the cast of this year’s all school production of Arthur Miller’s ‘‘The Crucible” were held last Thursday and’ Friday after school hours. “The Crucible” is a dramatic play that deals with the Salem witch trials conducted by the Puritans in 1692. The drama is not only a historical play, but also a par- able of our contemporary society. The play, under the su- pervision of Mr. Hopkins of the English department, will be presented April 16 and 17 with an admission charge of 50 cents for students and $1.00 for adults. School jackets The Student Council has decided to order an official school jacket which will be available for purchase among the student body sometime in the near future. The jacket is described as a fur-lined, royal blue windbreaker which will have horizontal printing across the left side saying “DALLAS. The price of the jacket has not yet been determined. S.A.T. The Scholastic Aptitude Test : will be administered at Dallas Senior High School on the morn- ing of March 6 to all interested juniors and seniors. All students planning to attend college should take this test. Don’t forget your admissions ticket! Congratulations A short note to congratulate all the members of the varsity and junior varsity basketball squads and their coaches, Mr. Cicon and Mr. Rybak, on the excellent record the teams have posted this year. Way to go!!! Kiwanis Festival of Music On March 6, the choristers will be competing in the Kiwanis Festival of Music. A panel of judges will preside over the event which will be held at the junior high. Good luck Dallas! Finals for cheerleading com- petition On Feb. 6 our cheerleaders placed among the finalists in the annual cheerleading competition held by Luzerne County Community College. The finals will be held at the CYC on March 2 at 6:30 p.m. The six finalists were Dallas, Lake-Lehman, Sacred Heart, St. John’s Central Catholic, and Coughlin. We urge you to come and support our cheerleaders so that Dallas may bring home the trophy and the honor for the third consecutive year. Bowling News Wilkes-Barre Truck Center men moved into a first place tie with Woodland Inn in the ‘George Shupp League as they shut out Boston’s Texaco. Young R. Bonomo’s 559 led the truckmen to their 4 point vic- tory while Shalata’s 213 topped the service center boys. Wood- land Inn’s T. Kostrbala rolled 219 paced the inn keepers to their 2-2 split with the Ranch Wagon. B. Roberts’ helped take the second game with 204. Fielding has high for the ran- chers with 232 (579). Harris Associates took 3 points from Stanton TV to climb to a second place tie with Bill’s Cafe. Wendell’s 234 (590) and Hospodar’s 214, 205 (590) were tops for the Associates followed by Guido’s 577. Brobst came through for the TV men with 213 (560). Bill’s Cafe swept 4 points from last place Daring’s Market. Kardell’s 205 (577) was too much for the grocerv men. Michael’s 216 (574) led Mike’s Electric to a 3 point win over Mahaffey Oil. Molley, Rudick, and Klass came through with 500 series to help cinch the vic- tory. Corbett’s 572 for Roberts Gulf was high for the night in the Community Service as they split 2-2 with Stanton’s TV. Besecker’s grabbed 3 points from Roth’s Novelty. Automatic Cigarette Service men rolled 790, 783, 746 (2319) to take 3 points from Boyd White’s whose men had trouble spilling the pins. ! L. Cyphers’ 185 (491), E. Shaffer’s 165 (473), A. Corbett’s 192 (453) and K. Sharpe’s 170 (452) earned Brothers Four 4 points from Fashion Vending in the Ladies Country League. Pargas hung on to second place 7% games behind the Brothers by taking 3 from Nelson Mfg. B. Pape splattered the pins for 181 (180 (505) followed by M. Considine with 160 (465). R. Coury rolled 185. Nelson’s A. Matte hit 500 on the nose with two 173’s. M. Eisen- hower came up with 168. Joe’s Pizza moved to fourth position by sweeping all 4 from Daring’s Market. High for Joe’s was H. Bonomo’s 179, 193 (509). V. Harris scored 167 and S. Welch 179. The Buck and Bears are tied for first place in Valley Paperback League with a number of good games posted by both men and women. The Tigers’ B. Bicking hit high for the night with 238 (610). Right behind him was C. Gordon (Panthers) with 258 (588). Al Hawk led the Mustangs with 209 (580) and R. Scott came through for the Leopards on a 207 (573). Other games in the high spots were L. Bedrod’s 212 and J. Yenalevitch’s 203. M. White- sell’s 200 (532) led the Wolves and B. Bonning (Mustangs) right behind with 184 (489). Other highs for the night were by C. Denmon 675-0419 Joan Murphy 179 (450), P. Gordon 173 (471) and M. Webber 169 (450). Tigers are leading with high series of 2404. Trucksville A took 3 points from E Dallas to continue in first place in the Church League Shavertown B managed to hang on to second just 1 point in front of the Lutherans when they dropped 4 points to Shaver- town A. The best the Lutherans could do was to take 1 from the Orange B. The Orange B. groups went into a 2-way tie with Carverton B. Carverton B. blanked Dallas B. to push them into a 3-way tie with Orange A and Trucksville B. Dallas A took 4 points from Shavertown C to move to fifth position while dropping their opponents to an eighth place tie. Carverton A moved to ninth by grabbing 3 points from Orange A and Huntsville Christian dropped to eighth while Shaver- town C by losing all 4 to Trucksville B. Mt. Zion and Trucksville C split 2-2. Hitting in the 550’s or better were A. Fox 206, 211 (595), R. T. Moore 231 (582), Lewis 228, 202 (571), and K. Sickler 203 (551). Scoring in the 200’s were J. Del- vecchio 209, P. Kunkle, 203, W. Morgan 224, J. Berti 217, S. Fielding 203, and A. Morgan 203. In the Industrial League B. Goassart scattered the pins for a high 216 but it was not enough as his Kunkle Motors team lost 3 to Boston’s who remain in first place. Hurst continued in second by splitting 2-2 with Dar- ing’s Market. The going was rough for both teams as they were unable to hit high scores. Larksville 66 moved to third by shutting out Hoppv’s Cafe. J. Sabol hit a 209 for the ‘‘66-ers.” Led by J. Titus’ 208 (564) Mc- Creary Tire swept 4 points from Hansons’ Amusement Park to take over fourth place. O‘Malia’s B. Bonning con- tinued her high scoring in the Imperialette League as she hit 166, 189, 197 (552) to lead her teammates to a 4 point shutout over Goodman Florist. J. Lerch backed her up with 194, 175 (501). C. Purvin’s 163 was high game for the florists. E. M. Shepherd’s J. Bolinski had 178 (494) as they took 4 points from Citgo. T. Morris came through with 162, 166 (462) and Sue Welch with 180 as Dallas Dairy took their 3% points from Garrity Estate. N. Perry’s 172 (472) followed by G. Wagner's 180 (458) were high for the realtors. Fitch and Apex made it two _each as T. Russell led Fitch with 185, 165 (505) and J. Bicking rolled 167 (457). Anchor J. Agnew’s 171 (454) assisted by R.
