PAGE SIX Dallas Senior High School by Cheryl Hontz and Linda Dexter Strutters The end of the Dallas High football season has also brought us the end of seeing our strut- ters perform until next year. At the first football game, all the Dal-Hi fans noticed and enjoyed a new addition to the pre-game entertainment, and that was our squad of strutters. The group took shape last May with the help of Mrs. V. Thomas. Try- , outs resulted in a squad of 16 girls and two alternates. This year practices were held at least four times each week, after school. This year, their great coach was Maureen Lavelle, a new addition to the faculty at the Senior High. With much time spent by Miss Lavelle and the co-captains, Candie Wismer and Jill Daron, the strutters came up with a new routine for songs played by the band. Some practices will be held throughout the year to keep the strutters in shape for parades; and tryouts are to be held again next May. Congratu- lations for the production of such a fine squad, and many thanks go to Miss Lavelle for er time spent doing it. Football Not enough thanks or congra- tulations can go to all those who made the Dallas High football season one of the best. Not everyone realizes what it takes to produce such a season. Ours “was the result of a lot of plan- ning—our great coach, Jack Jones; assistants; devoted players; cheerleaders; strut- ters; a terrific band; and most of all, students and fans with PRIDE and SPIRIT! Many well deserved thanks go to all of these people. Many thanks es- pecially go to the Pep Squad, which under the leadership of Mrs. Wega and president, Michele Masoner, helped the students realize what SPIRIT and PRIDE consisted of! ; Junior dance A dance was held Nov. 25, the eve of “Turkey Day’, in the senior high gym. This dance was sponsored by the Class:of '72. The dance proved to be one of the best, with the music pro-, vided by the great TNT, pre- viously known as the Eddie Day Groop. Along with the music came the notable ‘light show” produced by the group. All this. totaled up to equal a very suc- cessful dance. Girls basketball Once again, the ‘Female Chord-Rippers”’ of Dal-Hi are starting to reign supreme as the beginning of the girls’ basket- ball season gets under way. The beginning of a new season also brings a new coach, Miss Millin, an art teacher at the junior high and intermediate school. Physicals were held Tuesday, followed by practice until Friday, when the new 1971 team will be born. There are to be eight league games, four away and four home. League games will be played with a six-man team Tuesdays and Fridays. Some scrimmages may be held using the five-man team. Good luck to Miss Millin and her girls. Come see them play. They need everyone’s support to help win the championship. The first game is to be held Jan. 6, 1971. : School spirit This year the senior, junior and sophomore classes at Dallas competed to show which class had the most school spirit. To do this a committee of stu- dents from each class volun- teered to the actual work. One wall in the gym was assigned to each class and the committees decorated them. The one that - was the best, as judged by eight teachers, won. On Nov. 25, a pep rally was held and senior class was announced to be the win- ner. Congratulations of 1971! Keep up the good work! brush fire at Demunds The Dr. Henry M. Laing Fire Company responded with two trucks and twelve men to a brush fire at Demunds Corners in the early morning hours Friday, Nov. 27. The blaze destroyed a large area of brush. Don Shaffer, fire chief, directed the firemen; they were assisted by volunteers from Kunkle. THE DALLAS POST, DEC. 3, 1970 ACME’S CHRISTMAS GIFT TO YOU! 900 PRIZES! 1,500,000 S&H STAMPS!
