Spencer Martin, chairman of the Back Mountain Municipal Authority, and other members of the authority at a special meeting held Oct. 29 for the purpose of presenting preliminary financial information about the proposed sewage system to local government officials. Past ex: perience would tend to support the authority’s claim. ; Ten years ago, a feasibility study made for this area indicated that a sewage system would have cost roughly half what it will cost today. In- credibly—but not altogether unexpectedly—the cost of sewers in the Back Mountain area has risen well over $1 million in the year and a half that the present municipal authority has struggled to get the plans off the drawing board. Mr. Martin explained last Thursday night that construction of the sewage system is scheduled to begin January, 1971. Treatment plant construction should be com- pleted by January, 1973, when the first property hook-ons will begin. Roughly 40 per cent of the project will be completed during the first year, 50 per cent the second, and 10 per cent the third. Each municipality will be expected to approve three basic ordinances at their next meetings. One ordinance will give the authority the right to cut streets and install sewer lines; the second, the right to assess land owners; the third will make it mandatory for property owners to connect to the system when it is completed. Any house within 150 feet of a sewer line would be required to connect to the line. RE-UPEIOLSTERY Factory re-built, not just re-upholstered. We restyle! Renew! Latest fabrics avail- able in stock.
