Purposes of the meeting are to collect insurance and registration money, to organize into troops and to have procedures of Cadette Scouting explained. Girls are asked to bring $1.00 for registration and $.75 for insurance. Any seventh grade girl who has not been a scout but would like to join is invited to attend. Mothers of the girls are asked to arrive at 3:30 p.m. so that Betty Cooper may explain how Cadette Scouting operates. Mrs. Cooper will be in charge of the meeting. All girls will be responsible for their own trans- portation home. Dallas gridders lose first game The Dallas Senior High School Mountaineers opened the 1970 football season last Saturday afternoon with a home game against the Pittston Area Patriots. The Dallas Marching units conducted the pré-game ac- tivites, assisted this year by the development of a strutter unit coached by Maureen Lavelle. Following the pre-game cere- monies the teams took the field and immediately established that both teams had come to play tough football. The specta- tors witnessed a fine defensive battle that allowed only two touchdowns, both by the Patriots in the second quarter. The first Patriot touchdown came midway in the second quarter on a long pass from quarterback Frank Rolek to his end Ed Pieczynski. The Patriots 5-Mile Point plans popular fall events Southern Tier Racing, Inc., the promoting organization for 5-Mile Point Speedway, has an- nounced two big fall dates for the popular quartermile-dirt oval. The Broome County speed- plant will host the 7th annual Southern Tier ‘100°’ October 3. The 100 lap event for Modified- Sportsman will carry a guaran- teed purse of $6040., with the winner pocketing $1500., second $1000.; third $750.; and fourth $500. All starters in the event will share in big cash payoff. Another 100 lap event for Modified-Sportsman, the South- ern Tier Open will be on the slate, October 24, with the same purse as the October 3rd event. The October 3rd race will open to Modified-Sportsman, no cubic inch limit on engines but the usual one 4-barrel carbur- Ah A A O—t 5. MILE POINT SP made a two point conversion after a penalty had set them back to the 17 yard line. The Patriots scored the second time just before the half ended on a lateral from Rolek to Leo Monteforte who raced around end for the score. The Mountaineers threatened in the second half but could not sus- tain a drive. Sophomore Gary Arcuri played most of the game at quarterback while Ken Engler and Ray Kurderka per- formed most of the running chores for Dallas. If this game was any indica- tion, Coach Jones’ team should provide the area fans with an exciting, hard-hitting brand of football and a team they can really be proud of. The Mountaineers will host G.A.R. this Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the senior high field. etor rule in effect. Both century events will be preceded by a full card of heats and qualifing events. Starting spots in the preliminary events will be determined by draw. Winners will start up front. $& Gates will open at 4 p.m. both 3 days with the programs slated to get underway promptly at 6:30 p.m. Their will be no entry fees for either event. Pit passes will be $4.00. General admis- sion, adults $3.50 and children under 10 $1.00. Preschoolers will be admitted free. Back Mountain teams home this weekend A revised schedule of games in the Wyoming Valley Scholastic Football Conference for the 1970 season was recently released by Robert M. Thomas, secretary of the Conference. There are six games scheduled this weekend. Friday night, Wyoming Area will host Central Catholic and Plains will host Meyers. Saturday afternoon games will be at Dallas versus G.A.R.; at Lake-Lehman versus Hanover, and at Nanti- coke versus West Side Tech. Pittston Area will host Coughlin in a night game. Next Friday night Sept. 25, will find West Side Tech and Hanover and Wyoming Area at Coughlin. Plains will play at Dallas Saturday afternoon, Sept. 26, Night games will in- clude G.A.R. at Central Catholic; Pittston at Nanticoke, and Lake-Lehman at Meyers.
