The substance, called struvite, is a formation of potas- sium magnesium phosphate crystals. It is not poisonous, but can lacerate a person’s tongue or mouth because of the sharp, pointed nature of the struvite crystals, which look like tiny shards of broken glass. Glorio J. Patsy, chief of the Department’s Division of Food Control, said the Department’s inspectors have been told to examine fish products such as shrimp, kippered snacks and tuna, and embargo any lots found to contain struvite. Mr. Patsy said the reason for the formation of struvite in canned fish is a mystery. He said struvite has been around for ‘“‘a long time”’ and occasion- ally crops up. According to Mr. Patsy, stru- vite disolves in vinegar or acetic acid. - safety chains required for vehicles Owners of travel trailers, tent campers and conversion camp- ing units are now required by Pennsylvania law to use safety . chains in towing these recrea- tional vehicles. This warning was issued by the Pennsylvania Recreational Vehicle and Camping Associa- tion, which notes that the new regulation has been effective since July 23. Previously, safety chains were required only for units towed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The law affects any recreational vehicle being Scout Day at Knoebel’s The second annual ‘‘Scout Day’’ at Knoebel’s Grove Amusement Resort, near Elys- burg, has been scheduled for Aug. 29. This year’s invitation has been extended to all of Penn’s Woods Council. The management of the park will give each girl who partici- pates tickets for amusement rides for that day. Troops in- terested in attending must arrange for their own transpor- tation and be responsible for proper insurance coverage and lunch. A special pavilion will be set aside where each Scout troop will register and receive tickets. pulled with a ball-and-socket or pintle towing device. The association further ad- vises travelers and vacationers using camping units to observe the following rules for safety: Check unit’s tire pressure to increase wear life and insure straight-line stops. Pack a spare. Be sure the towing vehicle can safely pull stop the camping unit. Test it before you leave and know your stopping dis- tance. Check all lighting and carry replacement bulbs on your trip. Keep recreational vehicle’s vents and windows closed tightly when on the highway to prevent deadly carbon mono- xide fumes from filling the unit. Carry reflectors or. flares to place along the highway in an emergency. Take along wheel chocks to block the vehicle when chang- ing a tire. Check the road ahead to be certain your recreational vehicle will pass over the narrow bridge, beneath elec- trical wires, or through a low ceiling tunnel. Know your dimensions. Be aware of your overall towing length and drive ac- cordingly by taking turns slightly wider. Never carry passengers in a moving travel trailer. Always remove bottled gas containers from the recreational vehicle before . refilling. : ) THE DALLAS POST, AUGUST 20, 1970 Elegant Platinum Toned ° MONOGRAMMED 15-0z.
