THE DALLAS POST, MAY 28, 1970 Poppy Day Proclamation Saturday, May 30, has been designated as Poppy Day 1970 in the Borough of Dallas with the signing of a proclamation by Mayor Stephen Hartman Jr., after which he purchased the first poppy from Mrs. Fred Templin, poppy chairman of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 672. The proclamation reads as follows: WHEREAS, The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary adopted the Memorial Poppy as its memorial flower in 1919, and WHEREAS, by wearing the Poppy, Americans everywhere and especially in the Borough of Dallas both pay tribute to these war dead and aid :the living by assistance to Veterans and their families in time of need; and WHEREAS, the Poppy Day Program contributions are used solely for the programs of Child Welfare and Rehabilitation in our community and state; NOW THEREFORE, I Stephen Hartman Jr., Mayor of the Bor- ough of Dallas, do hereby proclaim May 30 as Poppy Day in our borough and I urge all citizens of our town to join with me in the wearing of this Memorial Flower as together we remember the sacrifices of so many in defense of our freedom.
