Chuck LaBerge, Dallas pushes up and away for points in the
first quarter of the Dallas—Lake-Lehman game last week.
top in basketball league
by Dale Sponselier
The Dallas Mountaineers cap-
tured the first half title of the
B Division of the Wyoming
Valley basketball league by
downing rival Lake-Lehman,
79-70 in overtime. The game
. was held before a capacity
crowd estimated at 1400 in the
losers’ gym. Approximately 500
disappointed fans were turned
away.
Sponseller tapped in a shot
by Dickinson for the Knights
as the buzzer sounded to knot
the contest at 68 a piece and
send the two teams into over-
time. Led by lanky Dave Jones,
Dallas outscored the Knights
11-2 in the extra period as
Lake-Lehman failed to hit the
open shot.
Dickinson led all scorers with
29 points while LaBerge was

high for Dallas with 24. Jones
and Lefko contributed 19nd
16 respectively to aid the¥¥in-
ners’ cause.
Both teams fought courage-
ously throughout the entire
game. The Mountaineers were
ahead 38-34 at halftime and
held a six point advantage
going into the final minute.
But Lake-Lehman = quickly
closed the gap and the home-
town crowd erupted when
Sponsellor’s goal split the cords.
Lefko grabbed 22 rebounds
to help the Dallas cause while
Lozo pulled down 20 for the
Knights. LaBerge was tough
on defense as he blocked num-
erous shots and intimidated
his opponents. Dallas’ back-
court, made up of Miller, Fedock
and Hoffecker,
was the gj
to the Mountaineers’ vicery.
Time after time they found the
big men open for scores and
played excellent defense.
Dickinson, the leading sc rer
in the B Division now nds
42 points to reach the 1000 point

mark will come tomorrow night

Ashley in a game played at
