Keller Is Promoted
To Lance Corporal
Lance Corporal Edward Keller got
his second promotion in five months
at the Marine Base in New Rivers,
N. C., the first from Private to Priv-
ate First Class, the most recent to
Lance Corporal. He has been in
service for a year.
He was able to spend Christmas
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Francis Keller, at Hillside, where
his sister Deborah was also a week-
end guest. Deborah, with living
quarters in Alexandria, has a post
with the Veterans Administration
in Washington. She expects to
continue her college education in
the Capital.
Edward has the responsibility for
seeing that parachutes are properly
packed and maintained, a detail

'MYF Carols
Jr. MYF of Shavertown Methodist
Church gave a play on December
22 and following the program the
group went carolling throughout the
community. The girls and boys
then went to the home of Mr. and
‘Mrs. Jack Porter where they en-
joyed hot chocolate and cookies.
Miss Helen Bowser, director and
Mrs. Joseph Allen accompanied
them. t

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ondish, Car-
penter Road, Dallas, announce the
birth of a daughter on December
22 in General Hospital.

Forty Seventh Anniversary To Be
Celebrated By The Thomas Hontzes
i Mr. and. Mrs. Thomas E. Hontz,
50 Perrin ‘Avenue, Shavertown, will
observe their 47th wedding anniver-
sary on December 31.
The couple were wed in Christ
Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre by
Rev. P. N. Wolsen, D.D. Mrs. Hontz
is the former Bertha Hirner, Wilkes
Barre. Her husband is a native of
Slocum, Pa.
Mr. Hontz who has been an or-'
ganist for many years played the
evening of his honeymoon at Christ
Lutheran Church where he served
in this capacity for a number of
years. He was one of the first or-
ganists of St. ‘Paul's Lutheran
Church, Shavertown, which wias just
beginning its congregation at that
time and continued to play there
until 1962.- As- a young man Mr. |
Hontz began work with the Boston |

Century Of Connubial Happiness
At one of the jolliest households |
in the Back Mountain, Mr. and Mrs.
Samuel Spaciano, Shagbark Drive, |
Shavertown, will mark their 47th
wedding anniversary on January 7.
Mrs. Spaciano is the former Mary
Madio,” Geneva, N. Y. The couple
were married at Holy = Rosary
Church, Wilkes-Barre, by Rev. Luigi
Cesare.
They are the parents of six chil-
dren, Vincent, Levittown, Pa.; Louis,
Trucksville; Anne, Harrisburg; Yo-
landa, Thompsonville, Conn.; Ma-
falda, Patterson, N. J.; Victor,
Shavertown. Seven grandchildren
and one great-grandchild complete |
the family roster.
Prior to retirement last year, Mr. |
Spaciano was employed by Wilkes- |
Barre Transit Company for 38 years. |
Mrs. Spaciano, also retired, was an |
employee of Natona Mills for 19
years.
Banquet Is Held
By Education Asso.
The Lake-Lehman Education
Association’ held its Christmas|
banquet at Irem Temple Country |
Club December 15. Upon arrival the |
ladies received holly corsages, while |
the gentlemen received cigars. Mr. |
: Delbert Hines gave the invocation |
before the smorgasbord dinner, |
which was followed by dancing to |
the music of a local band. The tables |
were decorated with centerpieces of |
holly placed in milk glass vases
accented by sprigs of spruce with |
eteria staff received Christmas gifts |
from the association and gifts were |
exchanged among the guests. Christ- |
mas greetings were extended to the |
group by Mr. Willard Sutton, pres- |
ident of the Board of Education; Mr.
Robert Belles, supervising principal;
School Principal; Mr. Charles James,
Mr. Anthony Marchakitus, High'
Elementary School Principal; and
Mr. Lester ‘Squire, Superintendent of
the Wyoming Valley Technical In-
stitute.

the congregation. They have resided
in Shavertown for the past 40 years.
A quiet celebration is planned to
mark the occasion.

enjoy most the coming of their
children and grandchildren for a
gay visit "and the welcome mat is
extended likewise to their many
friends.
