a ALONG THE ROAD
¢ Know something pretty? Nor-
! man Lewis’ garden of green corn
sprinkled with bright golden sun-
flowers unanimously facing where
the sun comes from. The hedge
| along the road tends to screen all
this from sight but if you are walk-
ing your dog you let him sniff the
| roadside while you pause to enjoy
the scenery.
© Ann Bell driving a red car and
wearing dark glasses stopped us the
other day to ask how many times
«the dog and I travel the road. - She
often is coming or going at the time
4. of our walks.
back from their vacation in Nova
{ Scotia. They had a wonderful trip.
She says that son Jake is in the
i armed forces occupying stations
pe and above the 38th parallel
in North Korea. His wife is gradu-
1 ating from college and this Fall Jake
| is expecting assignment to Germany
© and his wife can go with him there.
| ANIMALS
i A rat, perhaps mate to the one
the tramp cat caught so neatly last
1 week, stepped into a trap under the
| bird feeder. Across the pond an-
| other kind of rat, one with long
| flat tail, was nosing along in the
i pond-edge grass. While the binocu-
| lars were still astride my nose the
| little green heron strode into focus,
| frog hungry. And not many rat-
| lengths away a killdeer picked its
way around. Mr. Heron decided to
chase it out of glass range!
SOUNDS
| Sitting on the porch doing noth-
| ing I can hear far away the moan
. of the mourning dove, penetrating-
ly clear when all is quiet.
A LETTER FROM MT. ZION

Mrs. May Fielding who used to
live at the far end of what is called
the Bodle Road now lives in Eau
Gallie Florida. She gets’ our Gilbert
Story with Jots from Dot and often
writes to say how much she enjoys
it. Her interesting P.S. this time
says: “Just had a delightful letter
from Mary Lewis.

wrong turns and I took a few. A
man told me I was about ten miles
out of the way! So the car made a
turn around and back I went.
Finally climbed up the corkscrew to
Slocum where a group of men and
boys were outside. My wrist watch
said I was only 5 minutes late.
Then I found someone from Slocum
had gone down to West Nanticoke
to bring me up to Slocum! Before
preaching I made an apology for
contributing to the mix-up. After
church one of the men begged my
pardon for the same thing. He had
got to the West Nanticoke church
at 11:15 and I had already gone.
Even so, with getting to Slocum 5
minutes late I finished 5 minutes
early. Had a wonderful time both
places, saw lots of country I didn’t
go to see and got home in time for
dinner.
MEANWHILE
Catherine reported that the one
who was listed to supply here at
Mt. Zion (who did supply West
Nanticoke and Slocum last Sunday)
Rev. Roy Beane was attending his
sister’s funeral in Detroit and a lay-
man from Wyoming, Mr. Witheridge
was the preacher here.
