The first Back Mountain Memorial Library Auction
was held in 1947. We salute the Twentieth Auction and
the people who, through the years, have given of them-
selves to make each one a success.
Excerpts from news stories, Barnyard Notes and
Pillar to Post are printed, along with pictures taken at
the Auctions.
Howard Risley’s Barnyard Notes were a special
feature of The Dallas Post. The following appeared
June 15, 1951.

It’s Auction time again!
Everybody enjoys the Auction! Everybody gives and
everybody buys! Its appeal is universal, from the
youngest to the oldest members of the community --
all have fun.
But keep this under your hat -- for it’s no secret —-
a great many persons from all sections ofthis commun-
ity gave $50 each to help start the library in 1945,

long before there was any thought of an Auction.

One gave $1,500 and asked to have no publicity. = ne Y
Another gave $500 on the same terms, and since that : FOUNDED

ing from $50 to $500. Without that support, when the 0 Es
Library was just a dream, the dream would have never «
become a reality.
In the excitement of the Auction, don’t lose sight of
its purpose.
