nounced that four Scholarship Loans
were made this year with two more

Finance Chairman, Mr. Allan
Montross, reported on this year’s
projects a dance, card party and
sale of note paper.
Mrs. George Payne, Chairman of
International Affairs, reported that
the slimnastics class, the bowling
league, the art contest and the Girl
of the Year. She also gave a report
on the Dallas Woman's Club
Chorale. |

Mrs. Ralph Dixon, Welfare Chair-
man, stated along with the usual
contributions, coal was given to two
needy families and Thanksgiving
baskets were distributed. Also gifts
were sent to Retreat Hospital at
Christmas time.
Membership Chairman, Mrs. Jack
Stanley, reported that 17 new mem-
bers were accepted this year with
total membership of 144.

College Misericordia’s Dean, Sister
Marianna Gildea, ‘R.S.M., has been
designated to receive the Amita
Award for Achievement in the Arts
and Professional Fields on Satur-
day evening, April 23, at the Bilt-
more Hotel, New York City. The
Amita or American Italian Asso-
ciation is a charitable organization
founded in 1956. Since then the
association has awarded one hun-
dred and eight women for their
contributions to the betterment of
American society and granted
scholarships to deserving young
wcmen. Sister Marianna will be one
of first non-Italian American
women to receive the Amita Award
according to the policy inaugurated
in this tenth year of Amita’s history.

Sister Marianna, who is listed in
the DIRECTORY OF AMERICAN
SCHOLARS: WHO'S WHO IN AM-
ERICAN WOMEN and WHO'S WHO
IN EDUCATION, is a native of Lu-
zerne, the daughter of Attorney
David B. Gildea and Anna B. Gil-
bay Gildea. Her oldest sister Mary,
was Principal of Luzerne High
School prior to her appointment as
Assistant Professor of English and
Supervisor of Student Teachers at
College Misericordia. Now retired,
Miss Mary Gildea resides on Lake
Street, Dallas.
Sister Marianna received the
Bachelor of Arts degree, summa
cum laude, at College Misericordia,
the Mastér’s and Doctoral degrees
from the Catholic University of
America. Her special field of study
is French with minors in Italian and
Medieval Latin. She was an instruc-
tor in French at the Catholic Un-
iversity and at the Catholic Sisters
College, Washington, D.C. during
the year 1942-43.
Scout Car Wash

will hold a Car Wash on Saturday.
April 23 from 9 until 3 at the home
of Howard Post, Sweet Valley.
