Reading Speedway Opens
Racing Season March 20
The Reading Fairgrounds Speed-
way will be the sprint car capital
of the land in 1966 with the season
opening on Sunday, March 20.
There is an ambitious program
planned to go along with an already
highly-successful modified stock car
operation.
There will be five sprint races
offered under the USAC banner
with a possibility of a sixth.
Four night programs are lined
up this season. The Eastern opener
will be. on Sunday, March 27, the
only daylight show on the Reading
sprint calendar.
The racing season will begin with
the powerful modifieds, featuring
the best drivers in the East, going
to the post at the “Home of Cham-
pions.”
Two motorcycle dates have been
set with ‘the Billy Huber Memorial
on Sunday, April 23 and the Penn-
sylvania Dutch during the Reading
Fair. There will be many other
attractions during the season.
YOUR HEALTH
There are various kinds of sore
throat, and wvarious treatments.
A sore throat may be a simple
ailment responding to simple treat-
ment.
Or it may be severe, as with
streptococcal sore throat.
The symptoms of streptococcal
sore throat are those of a severe
sore throat or tonsillitis. ;
There is a tendency for the neck
glands to become infected and in |
some cases to form abscesses.
Complications with strep sore
throat are similar to scarlet fever
complications, and sulfa drugs and
penicillin are usually effective. |
Tonsillitis is a cause of sore
throat that occurs chiefly in chil-
dren, and whether or not the ton-
sils should be removed is usually a
decision for the family doctor.
Diphtheria, a serious disease in-
volved with the throat, is fortunate-
ly becoming rare due to established
immunization in children.
Anti-toxin is used in ‘treating
| diphtheria and in some cases sur-
gery may be, resorted to if there
is an obstruction that interferes
with breathing .
Diphtheria is in most cases con-
tracted by way of droplets from the
ill or from carriers.
In some instances, diphtheria and
also streptococcal sore throat are
traceable to contaminated milk.
Quinsy is a severe infection of
the tissues surrounding the tonsils.
Laryngitis is an extension of
acute soreness of the throat down
into the voice box and vocal cords,
common among those who use their
voices under stress for long periods.
Dysphonia clericorum is the med-
ical term for clergyman’s sore
throat. .
