Bulldozer 1st Sign
Of Tannery Activity
The former Armour Tannery at
Noxen was reported sold Friday
afternoon to Jones Safety Device
Enterprises Inc., with the prospect
of plant improvement and eventual
manufacture there, and this week
a bulldozer appeared on the prop-
erty, an evident first state of oper-
ations.
Owner Fred Coole, former main-
tenance foreman for Armour,
bought the plant in April of last
year and included were some val-
uable properties and company
houses, a number of which he sold
to tenants. His cost was never re-
vealed, but it was guessed at some-
where between $25,000 and $30,000.
Sale price on the deed was re-
device manufacturing company.
The tannery suspended oper-
ations in 1961 for lack of profit,
thus depriving Noxen of its chief in-
dustry. Most of the former workers
are now employed elsewhere.
