i The first effort of the junior class
to earn some money and have some
fun at the same time was a dance
beld on Wednesday. The Comets
played from 7:30 until 10:30. All
that was needed was the small ad-
mission fee plus an activity card so,
needless to say, many attended and

When Wyoming Seminary Alumni
gather on campus for Homecoming
festivities October 23, a Dallas
young man, Joseph J. Wilson, Sem
quarterback, led the Blue Knights
aganist Perkiomen at 2 p.m. in Nes-
bit Stadium.
A junior at Wyoming Seminary,
Joseph is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry W. Wilson, Sr., 72 Franklin
Street. He is a member of the
Oxonian Society and will serve as
captain of the baseball team this
spring. Upon graduation Joseph
would like to follow in his Dad’s
footsteps and attend Dickinson
College.
William A. Kirmse Is
Airman First Class
William A. Kirmse, son of Mrs.
Jane A. Schellenberg Jr., of Valley
View Drive, Dallas, has been pro-
moted to airman first class in the
U. 8S. Air Force.
Airman Kirmse is a personnel
specialist at Hancock Field, N. Y.
He is a member of the Air Defense
Command. which protects the U. S.
against enemy air attack.
A graduate of Deerfield (Mass.)
Academy, the airman attended Cor-
nell University and the University
of Maryland's European Division
and Syracuse (N.. Y.) University
during ' off-duty hours.
His father, William A. Kirmse,
resides on East 69th Street, N. Y.

Rosanne Smith has: begun the
senior year at Emma Willard School,
Troy, * N.Y., this fall. Miss Smith

State Education Association, Octo-
ber 14 and 15, Shamokin High
School, a Social Studies seminar
was conducted on Friday. Over |
seventy teachers attended. |

High School, opened the meeting |
with election of officers: Donald J.
Evans, president, member of Stel
Studies Departmen, Dallas Senior
High School, and Robert Head,
vice president, chairman of social
studies at Shamokin High School.
Principal speaker, introduced by |
Mr. Hughes, was James G. Kehew,
Social Studies Coordinator, Bureau
of General and Academic Education,
Department of Public Instruction,
Harrisburg.
Mr. Kehew spoke of new content |
and . new teaching approaches de- |
veloping in Social Studies, of teach-
ing by the inductive method rather
than © furnishing students with a
wealth of facts for abserption and
many times memorization. By in-
ductive processes, the student would |

Mr. Kehew related that Carnegie
Tech has introduced courses of
study in the Social Studies which
are now being tried in Pittsburgh,
and are outlined as follows: In 9th
grade there are two complete se-
mesters of economic systems in
several countries in addition to our
own; 10th grade is devoted to
World Cultures, or History, but on
a case studies basis; 11th grade
| features American History, and
12th grade considers Sociology, An-
thropology and other Social Science
Disciplines. Independent student: re-
search is urged and highlighted at
all times. :

Schurtz, Director of Susquehanna
Vzlley. Regional Instructional Mate-
rials Center, and a resident of
Bloomsburg, distributed
on new approaches to the study of
geography relating to all areas of
the world.
