SPORTSMANS CORNER
by 3m Hopvle
The other day I stopped in and
had a visit with a good friend and
a sportsman -- DAVE (DAVEY)
KOZEMCHAK -- and while I wes
there Mrs. Kozemchak made some
homemade noodles and I must ad-
mit it was quite a treat. The only
‘ question now is which is better,
Mrs. Kozemchak’s noodles or old
Jim's homemade soup. By the way,
DAVEY is back in school and is
doing real well both with the
studies and with the girls too. Let's
face it, the whole family are a
bunch of swell people no matter
what.
GAME CAN COUNT: Many ani-
mals can count up to one. If you
want to fool a big buck, walk into
the woods with a pal and have the
pal walk out. The deer counts one
in, one out and assumes all's well
until you harvest him.
SKINNED: Try tomato skins to
liven up fishing. Drape pieces over
bait and see if fish respond to
color (?) or action (?) you decide
which, but they say it works.
It would be difficult to pinpoint
1
any one area in Pennsylvania as]
being the “hot spot” for stalking
deer with a bow and arrow. Every
county in the state ‘registered some
archery kills last year. A record
archery harvest took place in 1964
when bowhunters reported exactly
1,600 animals.
As in 1964 season, archers this
year will be permitted to take one
deer of either sex. If a hunter is
successful in bagging a deer during
archery season he is not permitted
to kill deer during rifle season.
Potter County led the state last
year with a harvest of 163 deer; Ly-
| coming County was second with 103
and Sullivan County third with 59.
Legal hunting hours during the
archery season are from 6 a. m. to
5 p. m. EST.
Waterfowl hunters are required
to retain a fully feathered wing on
each migratory bird while being
transported.
Bow and arrow and shotguns not
larger than ten gauge may be used
to take waterfowl. Pump guns must
be limited to a three shell capacity.
Electric calling devices are not legal
in the hunting of migratory water-
fowl.
In accordance with federal regu-
lations there are no open seasons
on snow geese and swans.
No federal Migratory Bird Stamp
is required to hunt snipe. All other
shooting regulations apply.
‘WOODCOCK season opens at sun-
rise and RUFFED GROUSE and
SQUIRREL opens at 7 a. m. EST
on Saturday, October 16.
This week’s hunting SUNRISE TO
