with their daughter, Peggy, son-in-

George 'Shortz, Wilmington, Ohio,
former resident of Wyoming Valley,
recently came to this area to take
his daughter, Gale, a student nurse
at Nesbitt Hospital, home for the
holidays. While here, he visited
friends and relatives in the Back
Mountain.

' At a lovely pre-holiday wedding,
Miss Brenda Marion Clause, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Clause,

became the bride of Joseph P. Ba-
ganski, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Baganski, Sr, 26 Bergh
Street, Hudson, in St. Paul’s Luth-
eran Church, Shavertown, on Satur-
day afternoon, December 19 at 3.
Rev. Frederic H. Eidam performed
the double ring ceremony before an
altar decorated with vases of white
gladioli and pompons. Ralph Mac-
aravage, soloist, sang “O Perfect
Love” and “The Lord’s Prajer,”
accompanied on the organ by Mrs.
Clayton Stetson, who also played
the wedding music.
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her father, wore a floor
length gown of white satin fashion-
‘ed with a scalloped, scoop neckline
of peau de angela lace dotted with
seed pearls, long tapered sleeves
and princess line front. Her modi-
fied bell skirt was trimmed with
garlands of lace throughout and
the full back cascaded into a chapel
train. Her’ veil of imported French
illusion fell from a scalloped pearl
crown and she carried a cascade
bouquet of white roses and pom-
pons.
Miss Barbara Baganski, sister of
the bridegroom, was maid of honor
and selected a long gown of battle
green velvet styled with a bateau
neckline, fitted bodice accented by
a pleated ‘satin cummerbund and
side olec ‘bow with a modified
bell ‘skirt. - She ‘wore a matching
scalp crown with a circular veil
Her cascade bouquet was of red and
Mamie Eisenhower carnations.
Mrs. Wayne Schmoll was mat-
‘ron of honor. and bridesmaids were

Flora Sue Anderson and
Joan Hand and Mrs. Robert Ber-
quist. They wore gowns identical
to. the maid of honor and carried
bouquets of red carnations and
white pompons. They all wore a
single strand of pearls, gift of the
bride.
Little Susan Pierson, flower girl,
was charming in a floor length
gown made with scoop neckline,
fitted bodice and full skirt fashion-
ed with ‘a large satin bow at the
back. She wore a matching head
band and carried a basket of red
carnations and white pompons.
Best man was Joseph Salus and
ushers were William Wheeler, Ed-
ward Sorbelli, Robert Berquist and |
Frank Kasmerowicz. Jay C. Hill |
was ringbearer.

sories. Her shoulder corsage was
of white orchids.
The bridegroom’s mother chose
a gold brocade sheath with white
fur pill box hat and white acces-
sories and wore a corsage of cym-
bidium orchids.
A reception followed at the Amer-
ican Legion Post Home, N. River
Street, Wilkes-Barre, after which
the couple left on a short honey-
moon trip to Washington and Ar-
lington, Va. For going away, the
bride wore a cerise chiffon sheath
dress with brown velvet pillbox
hat, brown accessories and a white
orchid corsage.
Mr. and Mr. Baganski left Christ-
mas Day for the West Coast to re-
side in San Francisco, where Mr.
Bagangski is stationed with the U.S.
Navy.
The bride was feted at pre-nup-
tial showers given by Miss Barbara
Baganski and Mrs. Robert Berquist,
by Miss Flora Sue Anderson, by
Mrs. Wayne Schmoll and Miss Joan
Hand and the office personnel of
Heavenly Shoes, Inc. Mr. and Mrs.
John Clause, the bride’s parents
entertained at a rehearsal party on
December 18.

Mr. and Mrs. Courtney Carkeek,
R.F.D. Hunlocks Creek, will cele-
brate their 64th wedding anniver-
sary on New Year's Day.
The former Alice Hazlett, daugh-
ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George |
| Hazlett, Bloomingdale, and Mr.
| Carkeek, son of the late Mr. and |
Mrs. William. Carkeek, also of
Bloomingdale, were married in the
parsonage - of . Dallas Methodist
Church by the late Rev. Fred Young.
The couple had dinner at the old
Raub Hotel in Dallas before return-
ing home, making the trip by horse
and sleigh, an all day event six
decades ago.
They lived in Bloomingdale for
a time, moving to Nanticoke in
1920. Mr. Carkeek was employed
at Susquehanna Colliery for many
years. The couple then moved to
their present home with Mr. Car-
keek operating his own restaurant,
Welcome Inn, at Sweet Valley. In

1940 he was thrown into a hay
mower drawn by his team of mules
and suffered two broken legs which
hospitalized him for some time,
leaving him unable to continue

Mrs. Carkeek, once a talented
craftsman, suffered a stroke two
years ago and, is also incapacitated.
The couple are the parents of three

‘| town, and William, Lucasville, Ohio.
There are also eight grandchildren,
and 11 great grandchildren.
No celebration is planned due to
the health of the couple but they
would appreciate receiving cards
from their friends.

capped somewhat by ‘arthritis per-
forms her household tasks but has
had to give up the excellent seam-
stress work which she did over the
