Mts. Lewis L. Rogers, Appointed
Head Of Frances Slocum Society

i Mrs. Lewis L. Rogers, Shavertown,
was appointed Senior President of
the Frances Slocum Society, Chil-
ren of the American Revolution.
'he Regent, Mrs. Harradon H.
r ith, made the announcement at
a meeting October 12. Mrs. Rogers
brings to her new office a wealth
of experience working with young
people, and exceptional organizing
abilities.
‘The Society is sponsored by the
Daughters of the American Revolu-
tion and its local Chapter, Wyo-
ming Valley, and is a patriotic or-
ganization whose aim is promotion
of American history and patriotic
education in all its phases, and
* whose aim is to the American In-
dian ‘Schools which it helps sup-
port.
~The Society has in -its member-
ship many Back Mountain residents,
including several now serving as
* officers, with Deborah Rogers as
President; Janet Flack, Secretary;
Penny Parkhurst, Treasurer and
* Lewis L. Rogers IV, historian.
‘Retiring Senior President, Mrs.
Robert M. Roe, was commended by |
the Regent, Mrs. Smith, for her
excellent leadership of the Frances
Slocum Society, during the past |
years; during these years the mem-
bership increased greatly and the |
Society received many National and |
State Awards; Mrs. Roe expressed |
“her gratitude to the DAR members |
“for their constant support, and
‘thanked Mrs. Charles B. Shafer for |
assisting in ‘the establishment of
the \Endowment Fund for which the
‘Society is responsible in contribut-
ing to National IC.ARs
Mrs. Robert Slaff was the speaker
at the DAR meeting; her talk was |
‘on the “Importance of Casting Your
Vote.” Mrs. Slaff is currently serv-
ing on the Speakers Bureau of the
League of Women Voters, and a
former member of that board.
. Following the program, tea and
refreshments were served. Mrs.

Mrs. Florence Davenport was in-
stalled for her second term as presi-
dent of Dallas American Legion
Auxiliary at the annual meeting
held September 30 at the Legion
Home. :

president, Margo Oncay; second vice
president Elsie Harvey; secretary,
Shirley Templin; treasurer, Helen
Garbutt; chaplain, Jean Buckley;

“officiated - at the ceremony, which
Ralph D. Beers and Mrs. Edgar May
presided at the tea table. Hostesses
were’ Mrs. Jones Evans and Mrs.
W. C. Griffith and Mrs. R. M. Roe.

Harveys Lake Women's Service |
Club Board will meet Monday at
the home of Mrs. Elwood Davis
with Mrs. Waldridge Leinthal and
Mrs. Donald Hanson as co-hostess-
es.
Final plans will be made for the
i “Hillbilly Jamboree” dance to be
held Friday Octnber 30 at Hansons
picnic grounds. Music will be by
John Hudak’'s Merrimakers.
President Mrs. Alan Sorchik will
be honorary chairman. Co-chairmen
Mrs. Malcolm Nelson and Mrs. Ro-
bert Pilger will. appoint members
who are to serve on committees.
Proceeds . from the dance will go
into the Scholarship Fund. >
Have Third Son
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Atkinson,
Carverton, announce the birth of
a seven pound, twelve ounce son,
Duane Bruce, September 24 at Nes-
bitt Hospital. There are two other
sons, Donald, and Dale. Mrs. At-
kinson is the former Florence Red-
mond, ‘East Dallas.

Board meeting of the Dallas El-
ementary PTA was held on Monday
evening, October 5th at the home
of Mrs. C. Warren Koehl, Jr.
Members attending were: Mrs.
George T. Budd, Mr. Harry Lefko,
Mr. John La Berge, Mrs. Paul J.
Selingo, Mrs. Raymond Daring, Mrs.
Sheldon Pfeifer, Mrs. Irvin Jacobs, |
Mrs. Lnuise Colwell, Mrs. Robert
Sheehan, Mrs. Daniel Levitsky, Mrs.
CLEA Taylor, Jr., Mrs. Anees B.
Barakat Jr., and Mrs. H. R. Mec-

Next meeting of the group will be
held October 19 at 8 p.m., and will
be “Fathers’ Night.”
The program will consist of a
panel of Rotary Exchange Students
with Mr. Lester Jordon as moder-

members of the PTA.

the second grade mothers. Hostess-
