wise to this fact and many
will trot along the side or cen-
ter of a busy highway, bliss-
fully unaware of the danger,
it’s up to you, the owner, to
protect your dog. It’s particu-
larly imperative now during
the summer months when the
hazard is multiplied by sum-
mer vacationists speeding to
their destinations.
So if you value the life of
your pet, as well as those of
fellow humans who may crack
up trying to avoid your dog,
confine him.

There are three ways of do-
ing this. The first is through
training—teaching the dog the
boundaries of his own land,
“and correcting him each time
he ignores them. If this does
not succeed and he persists in
sneaking off, you have no al-
ternative but to resort to
methods two or three.
Method two is to fence in
the yard or build a fenced-in
run. Make sure thai the fenc-
ing is high enough to prevent
your dog from jumping over
it, and deep enough in the
ground SO that he can’t dig un-
der it and cscape.
Method three is fo make him
strictly a house dcg and ex-
ercise him regularly three or
four times a.day on lead,
