Novel Olympic Program Saturday
Back Mountain Junior Girl Scouts
were participants in a new inno-
vation in activities on Saturday af-
ternoon when they held a Jucior
Olympics at Dalla Junior High
School.
The program was the first to use
twelve troops av one time and is
part of tne Peni’'s Woods Council
plan to acceierate coordination and
speed. Thn=ace was 100 per cent regis-
tration on the na". of troop mem-
bers so eager were they to take part
in the novel activities bringing out
300 girl scouts.
A flag procession with each troop
carrying an American and troop
flag opened the day's activities. Ten
contests found enthusiastic partici-
pants with the number of thosz en-
tering in each race varying from
two to ten.
The Olympic Games formed the
theme of the day. First prize win-
ners won a gold medal for their
troop, a silver medal to second place
victors and a bronze medal for
third prize.
Troop 705, Trucksville, Mary Jane
Moss, leader, won thé Olympic flag
with Shavertown Troop 632, Mary
Lou Swingle, leader, a close second:
Humorous parodies of the follow- |
ing international events, Hundred |
Yard Dash, Two Hundred Yard Dash,
Marathon, Hurdle, High Jump,
Broad Jump, Discus and Javelin
Throw, Relay Race, Shotput and

Girl Scout Council
To Hold Open House
Public Relations Committee of
Penn’s Woods Girl Scout Council an-
nounces plans for an open house to
be held at each of the four council-
! owned camps on Sunday, May 17.
Penn’s Woods Council owns and
| operates four campsites: Camp On-
awandah on the Susquehanna River
near Tunkhannock; Camp Louise at
Jonestown, Pa.; Camp Joy Lo at
Hobbie, Pa.; and Camp Wildwood
at Harveys Lake. Each of the camps
will be open from 12:00 noon until
7:30 p.m. The public as well as Girl
Scouts are invited to attend.
It is hoped that Scout leaders and
girls who have not as yet seen the
various camp facilities out of their
| own area will visit sites they have
| not seen. At each of the camps a
| Scout’s campfire will conclude the
| day's activities.
