Army Pfc. Michael F. Bean, son
of Mr, and Mrs. Elvin T. Bean, Nox-
en, is among the 1,000 American
military personnel who have re-
ceived orders to return home from
duties in the Republic of Vietnam.
The movement of personnel begon
December 3.
The 1,000-man cut in U. S. Forces
is being undertaken because the
training of Vietnamese armed for-
ces has progressed to ‘the point
where the withdrawal of some U.S.
Forces is possible.
Bean served as a mechanic with
the U. S. Army Support Group,
Vietnam. He entered the Army in
February 1963 and completed ba-
sic commbat training at Fort Knox,
Kentucky.
The 21 ‘year old soldier is a 1960
graduate of Lake-Lehman High
School. Before entering the Army
hz was employed by Pratt & Whit-
ney, Bast Hartford, Conn.

For Oscar Patton
Oscar Patton, 75, almost a life-
long resident of Noxen, died at his
home early Saturday morning
after a long illness.
Burial will be Tuesday afternoon
at Orcutt Cemetery, following serv-
ices conducted at 2 by Rev. Fred
Eister, pastor of Noxen Methodist
Church, from the Nulton Funeral
Home. Friends may call this eve-
‘ning 7 to 10.
Mr. Patton was born at South
Run, son of the late James and
Clarinda Dymond Patton. His wife,
the former Ethel Brown, is also a
native of South Run. The couple
lost a son Richard, who died in
1955.
A dairy farmer for forty-six
years, Mr. Patton was a member
and former master of Bowmans
Creek Grange. He drove a school
bus for forty-one years and was a
substitute rural carrier on the
Noxen route for thirty.
He belonged to Noxen Methodist
Church. :
Surviving are: his widow; these
children: Franklin, Mrs. Grace Kei-
per, Mrs. Ruth Bennett, and Al-
bert, all of Noxen; Mrs. Clara
Wells, Rockland, Mass.; twenty-
| three grandchildren and nineteen
greatgrandchildren; sisters and bro-
thers: Mrs. Severn Traver, Mrs.
Bert Montross, and Perry, all of
Noxen; Mrs. John Traver, Vestal,
N.Y.

Retreat Patients Are
Honored At Party
_ Annual industrial therapy pa-
tients’ party was held Friday after-
noon in the auditorium, Retreat
State Hospital. Guests included all
of the patients who are assigned to
a supervisor in the hospital's in-
dustry therapy program.
Mrs. Bessie Ruch Dies
| At 76, Following Stroke
Burial services were held for
Mrs. Bessie M. Ruch Saturday
afternoon from the Disque Funeral
home, Rev. Frederick Eidam, pas-
tor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church
officiating. - Interment was at Han-
over Green, Nephews were pall-
bearers.
Mrs. Ruch, 76, of Demunds Road,
died Wednesday night at Nesbitt
Hospital where she had been ad-
mitted by ambulance three weeks
earlier after suffering a stroke.
Shortly after admission she lapsed
into a coma from which she did
not rouse. ‘
Mrs. Ruch and her husband Mor-
gan, who died seven years ago, had
no children of their own. They
opened their home to a succession
of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ruch
was a mother to the neighborhood,
always on call in time of trouble,
always eager to run up small gar-
ments on her sewing machine for
some child.
A native of Wilkes-Barre,
daughter of the late Harrison and
Ella Barney Garinger, she moved
to the Back Mountain from Kings-
ton thirty years ago. She joined
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and
was active in its women’s organi-
zations.
Two brothers survive: George
Garinger, Washington, and Albert
Garinger, Wilkes-Barre; numerous
nieces and nephews.
The pizza, which is the focal
point of the party, was donated
this year by Mr. Joseph Pagliante,
who operates pizza establishments
both in Plymouth and at Harveys
Lake.
