Mr. Ackerson's Uncle Buried In Missouri Robert .S. Herbert, 81, resident Ledgeways since making his home a year ago with his nephew Al- fred Ackerson, died ‘Sunday morn- ing. Russell Lawry, pastor of Dallas Methodist Church, was re- cently named pastoral leader for this month, by Douglas Munn, secretary of Men of Good Will, which meets each Friday after- noon at the YM-YWCA, Betty THE DALLAS POST, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1963 Trinity United Presbyterians Pledge $65,000 Toward Edifice Sunday’s Every Member Canvass, carried out by Trinity United Pres- byterian Church, netted the funds needed for construction of the first unit of the proposed edifice. Members of the congregation of the new church, now, numbering 175, pledged $65,000. The National Board of Missions will contribute $50,000 toward the structure. The canvass was carried out un- der supervision of Rev. Wilfred Hasbrouck. Rev. Andrew Pillarella says that construction will probably start sometime in April. Plans must first be accepted by the congregation, as presented by Bradford 'Alden, chair- man of the- Building Committee. The building site is at the top of a long hill at the junction of Church Street and the main road leading to’ Irem Temple Country Club. It affords a far-reaching view of the area, overlooking Dallas Junior High School and [College Misericordia, a prime location for the Back Mountain's newest church. The congregation has been meet- ing at Dallas Junior High School, adjacent to the property acquired for its permanent home. A large sign marks the spot where the building will rise. Longmore Funeral Today Shop Teacher Was Extremely Popular Funeral services for Thomas Hen- ry Longmore are scheduled for this afternoon at 2 from the First Pres- byterian Church at Clark's Sum- mit, followed by burial at Abington Hills. Rev. Andrew Pillarella, pastor of Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Dallas, of which Mr. Long- more was a member, will officiate. Arrangements are by Richard Dis- que. Mr. Longmore, one of the most popular teachers at Lake-Lehman, was only 37 at the time of his death Monday afternoon at Jeff- erson Hospital, Philadelphia, where he had been admitted three weeks earlier, Taken ill during the summer, he had been admitted to General Hos- pital in August and again in Octo- ber, returning to his home in Dal- las. He had been on sabbatical leave since the month of Octo- ber, when it became apparent that he would not be able to carry the Industrial Arts shopwork for the year at the new high school. From the time that wrestling was introduced as a sport in the Lake-Lehman jointure, he had coached the matmen, first at Lake, later at Lehman .Before moving into the new shop at Lake-Lehman junior senior high school, he had handled the shop work at the Lake Building, at first under supervising principal George Taylor in 1952. He was with ‘the U. S. Navy during World War II. Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Roth Longmore of Scranton, he graduated from Millersville State College. He moved here with his wife, the former Martha Fray, at the time he joined the faculty at Lake-Noxen. There are three small children, Robert, David and John. Mrs. Longmore taught oil painting in the Dallas Adult Evening School for several years. More recently she has taught English as substitute at Lake-Lehman. Wife Of Supervisor Lies At Greenwwood Mrs. Ruth R. Smith, 74, wife of Arthur F. Smith, supervisor of Kingston Township for the past seventeen years, died Saturday morning at Nesbitt Hospital, where she had been admitted two days earlier. She was buried Monday after- noon in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery, following services conducted by Rev. A. J. He was a truly good man, humble as the truly good are humble, but lighted by an Inner radiance which was unmis- takable .At each Christmas season he is remembered with special love and affection. \ Descendant Of Early Settlers Mrs. Higgins, 90, Dies After Stroke Mrs. Clara Higgins, a member of Dallas Post's Eighty-Plus Club since 1955, died aged 90 Wednes- day morning at General Hopgpital, where she had been taken by am- bulance on Monday, following a stroke suffered in her own home at Idetown. Mrs. Higgins had made Christ- mas cookies on Saturday, and wat- ered her pink azalea, just coming into full bloom. She had lived alone since the death of her husband George six years ago. The couple had moved from Alderson to Idetown in 10353. Mrs. Higgins stoutly maintained her own independence, preferring to manage her own affairs and run her own household, but she had not been too well during the past sev- eral months, On July 11, her son and daugh- ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Higgins, had gathered the family together at their home in Alderson for a family celebration of her 90th birthday. Mrs. Higgins was a descendant of one of the pioneer families of the area. Her parents were the late James and Caroline Hubble Sorber, of Sorber Mountain. She leaves four sons: Howard, Al- derson; Percy, Idetown; Theodore, Tunkhannock; Floyd, - Plymouth; | four daughters: Mrs. Har- old Keener, Kingston; Mrs. Charles Kinsmen, Tunkhannock; Mrs. Alfred Keener, and Mrs. William Jones, | {both of Harveys Lake; seventeen | grandchildren and ten greatgrand- children.
