Mi. Zion
We don’t often run a news item
when someone attends church.
(Not but what there are plenty of
souls around who could make a
sensation by going just once in a
year!) But our three-point Thanks-
giving service last Wednesday at
Mt. Zion was signalized by having
Mrs. Howard (Mary) Lewis attend
service. This was her first since
serious hospitalization back in
September. Her friends included
this among other reasons for
thanksgiving as she herself also did.
We are glad to see her so much im-
proved.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Lewis and son
Jimmy from Union, N. J. spent
Thanksgiving with his mother, Mrs.
Howard Lewis.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Jenkins
and daughter Betsey from Toms
River, New Jersey, spent Thanks-
giving and the week-end with their
folks, the Thomases of Mt. Zion.
ORATORIO TIME AGAIN
Sunday afternoon Dec. 8, 3:30, at
St. Stephen’s ‘Church, Clifford Bal-
shaw will lead the chorus and
orchestra in a ‘presentation of Han-
del’s “The Messiah”. This is so
well-known that there is sure to be
a crowd.
BACK MOUNTAIN ON BOARD
Besides Clifford Balshaw of Dal-
las (and Mrs. Balshaw is a mem-
ber and a soloist in the chorus) the
following people are members of
the Board: Mrs. Louie Ayre, Mrs.
Ruth Reynolds, Mrs. Ralph Wea-
therly, John Reid, president, Mrs.
‘W. F. Newberry and Catherine Gil-
bert, secretary. Catherine has been
singing in the Oratorio Chorus
since 1955, In that time the chorus
has sung parts of The Messiah in |
1955, 1956, 1959 and now is to
sing in 1963. The point of interest
with Catherine is that in each of
these years she has used the same.
edition of 1912 that I used for the
short time I sang in a Boston
chorus in 1916 before my health
broke. It is a paper edition and
has been used often in home sing-
ing and understandably is now quite
“song-worn”, But Catherine has
completely rebound this copy her-
| self, because she had it so well
marked up that she canlt bear to
retire it among the antiques. ;
SPEAKING OF PAPERBACKS
Not quite every year we bring
out .from storage a beautifully
lithographed paper book of “The
Night Before Christmas’, and read
the story to our children. They
used to Oh and Ah over the antique
clothes of the people, and thrill
over the deer-drawn sleighload as
it took off through the night air.
Santa Claus was the up-to-datest-
dressed of them all. The Christmas

tree interested me. I never had one
until I was married. The remark-
able fact about the paperback was
that it is still intact in 1963. The
faint inscription is still legible:
“Merry Christmas to Charlie frem
Aunt Ada. 1893”. Hmmmm! That
makes my trophy of years a half
century plus twenty more years.
‘Who is an antique around here?
Mr. and Mrs. Williara Alling and
daughter Nancy and Betsey enter-
tained at Thanksgiving dinner Mrs.
Elaine Dymond ,and sons Howard,
Mark and Doug; and Mr. and Mrs.
Howard K. Reinhardt, parents of

MT. ZION TO DYMOND HOLLOW
Thanksgiving Day meant a whole
cluster of Dymonds getting together
in a wonderful way—converging on
the old Dymond homestead at Dy-
mond Hollow where Mrs. Rosa Dy-
mond lives. But the people who
came to sit around what must have
been a long table with a leg in the
middle: to keep it from sagging
came from a number of places. But
I got my news from the Mt. Zion
folks over on the other road, so I'll
begin with their names: Janet and
Dick Dymond and children Rickie,
Brenda, Barbara, Debra and Robert;
then Dick’s sister Eleanor and her
daughter Mr. and Mrs. Ken. Weis-
kerger ‘and daughter Lori; Mr. and
Mrs. James Bonnie, Mr. and Mrs.
Howard Osborne, also Inez Hamlin,
Mrs. Rosa Dymond’s ‘sister. Later
others- dropped in for the evening:
Jack * from Tunkhannock, Paul,
Simpsonville, Md., and Ben. As has
been her custom Mrs. Fred Ash-
