=; LR SECTION C — PACEZ | Lehman Marie Hardisky and roommate \ from Bloomsburg College went to Washington D. C. last week to see the late President Kennedy. They arrived at 11 a.m. and did not get into the East Room until 7:30 p.m. They said there were people lying all over the place on blankets. When the girls left from the Dulles Air Port, they saw Prince Philip. President Charles DeGaulle and Dean Rusk and many other diplo- mats. Fifteen ‘Little Notes” robes were donated Sunday by Mrs. Myron Baker and Mrs. Edward Oncay at the Methodist Church. The robes were made by Mrs. Walter _ Chamberlain and Mrs. Oncay. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coombs have a baby girl, Christine Marie born November 22. Mrs. Coombs is the former Catherine Crispell from Lehman. This is their first child. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Coombs entertained four children from the ' Binghamton Children’s Home over Thanksgiving. They had eighteen for supper. They have three children Mrs. Thomas Williams (Lois) Janet and Charles. Mr. and Mrs. Vanderhoff have resided in Lehman for the last 19 years. They are members of the Lehman Metho- dist Church. They were married on Thanksgiving Day November 24th 1938. Men’s Bible Class from the Methodist Church was entertained in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Baker rencently. Mike Kuchta, Commonwealth Telephone Com- pany, showed pictures on the Sheppton Mine Disaster. John Sid- ler showed movies of Dartmouth- P.M.C. football game. Class voted to send baskets to the elder men of the community. Same officers year were elected. : FIREMEN’S AUXILIARY Auxiliary of Lehman Fire Com- pany, met recently in the fire hall with a memorial service for our late President and the rest of those ' who lost their lives in that terrible tragedy. Motion was made to buy thermos jugs to make hot water for the firemen where there is a big fire,’ and to furnish donuts. the Castle Inn, December 9. ENTERTAINS W.S.C.S. of Methodist Church had as guest speaker ‘Roshanna Billimonie”, rotary exchange stu- dent from India. She showed colored slides of India and ‘told the exciting experience of her trip to this country. ~ Mrs. Ruth Wright gave dinner reports. Mrs. Nuss reported that Mrs. Adamshick would like the W.S.C.S. to buy recipes for Christmas cookies for 25 cents each. Mrs. J. Ellsworth sent boxes to the soldiers. Mrs. L. Ide read a letter from the Binghamton Children’s Home, asking for an electric pop corn popper. We sent them $10. Mrs. Gordon Johnson reported that there has not been any work ‘done on the old parsonage as yet. Twenty-one members and six visi- tors present. W.S.CS. will entertain Louella Neely Bible Class at our Christmas party December 11 at 2 o'clock, in the church basement. Everyone is asked to bring a 50 cent gift. Sch- weiker recently introduced Ilegisla- tion exempting persons such as the Old Order Amish from participa- tion in the federal Social Security program. ~The Schweiker bill would permit members of churches whose estah- lished doctrines forbid participation in such programs on religious grounds to waive their benefit rights and be exemvted irora social security taxes. Applicants for exemption would be asked to show that members of their faith make adequate provi- sion for elderly members to pre= vent their needing any public aid in their later years.
