The Hunt Begins
The crack of a shot-gun early
Tuesday morning gave warning
that the hunters are nearby scour-
| ing the local woodlands for game.
| It also means that youngsters and
pets are no longer safe in the area.
Fire Chief Arnold Yeust will be
among those taking off after game
early on Saturday as will many
| other eager nimrods. :
| Walter Gosart Sr., will be among
the younger lads who want to try
| their luck after school hours.
| Jay C. amd Tommy Hill visiting
{in Dutch Mountain recently awoke
| their elders early on Sunday morn-
ling when a young bear climbed a
| tree near their cabin and several
|deer and a wild turkey appeared
in the clearing.
Taking a jaunt around the area
later that day, 50 deer were seen
| within a short distance of the
hunting lodge.
Pageant Winner
The selection of Beverly Eck as
Wyoming Valley's Junior Miss for
1964 brings yet another honor to
the Eck family. It will be remem-
bered that Mrs. Eck, the capable
mother of four, herself was chosen
as Mrs. Wyoming Valley several
years ago.
Best of luck, Beverly, in the
Reading finals.
To Celebrate
Another member of the Eck fam-
ily will mark a festive occasion
on Sunday, when Mrs. John Eck
will observe her birthday.
In addition to Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Eck and family, her daughter
land son-in -law, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Katon and som, Skipper, Arlington,
Va., will arrive Friday to spend
the week-end with Mrs. Eck.
Sad Plight
Residents in the Mt. Airy Road
sector are disturbed over the
plight of a likeable mother cat dis-
carded a year ago.
The animal manages to exist by
scraps set out by kindly neighbors,
but has lost her faith in humans
and can never be caught.
Several litters born to ‘the cat
have either died or been carried
home by concerned youngsters.
The little ones are so undernour-
ished but rally quickly with care
and affection. Mrs. Walter
now has one ready to go and an-
other ig getting fat and saucy at
our home.
Danger In The Dark
Although our home was deluged
by visiting Hallowe’ener’s last week,
we failed to recognize two favor-
ites among the group.

Shavertown
On checking into the reason,
we discovered that pranksters had
spoiled their evening of whole-
some fun.
As Debbie Allen and Leslie Al-
exander began . their rounds on
Hallowe'en night, a passing car on
Pioneer Avene hurled hard objects
at the two youngsters.
Debbie was struck on the arm,
the force of the impact bruising
it badly. :
It is sad indeed that our child-
ren apparently are not safe any-
where, even within the confines of
their own neighborhood.
Speaking of Hallowe'en, what an
attractive setting Mrs. Sheldon
Evans had on her front lawn with
the tall cornstalks forming a per-
feet foil for the big, fat pumpkins.
