LAKE-LEHMAN TEACHERS
TAKE SUMMER COURSES
Miss MaryAnn Foley of 121
North Atherton Avenue, Kingston,
Pennsylvania attended Blooms-
burg State Teachers College this
summer to study French. By work-
ing in the language laboratory
Miss Foley earned six credits and
the certification to teach French.
She now teaches Senior High
School English and is Cheerleading
Coach for the Lake-Lehman Var-
sity Cheerleaders.
Mr. Mitchell Czoch of 117 Hem-
lock Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsyl-
vania attended the University of
Scranton to earn credits toward his
Masters Degree in Guidance. Ado-
lescent Development, Occupational
Information, Educational Re-
search, and Group Guidance were
Mr. Czoch’s subjects. Mr. Czoch
teaches Senior High School Sci-
ence.
Miss Jessica Thomas of Eliza-
beth Street, Noxen, Pennsylvania
attended College Misericordia and
the University of Scranton for
further work toward her masters
degree. Her major study was Grad-
uate Work in English. In the fall
Miss Thomas will attend Pennsyl-
vania State Extension to study De-
velopmental Reading. Miss
Thomas teaches Junior High
School English.
Miss Marion Huttenstine of R.D.
2, Wapwallopen, Pennsylvania at-
tended Bloomsburg State Teachers
College as a Masters Candidate.
Miss Huttenstine’s studies included
Linguistics, Chaucer, Methods and
Materials of Educational Research,
and Literary Research and Biblio-
graphy English Conference. Miss

Huttenstine teaches Senior High
School English.
Mr. Kenneth Maciak of R. D. 2,
Dalton, Pennsylvania attended
classes at Misericordia and re-
ceived his credits through Kings
College. Mr. Maciak studied Eco-
nomics and The Social Foundation
of Education. He teaches Physical
Education and Senior Health.
Mr. Carl Vassia of 28 Line Street,
Glen Lyon, Pennsylvania attended
Bloomsburg State Teachers Col-
lege to ‘earn credits toward his
Masters Degree in History. Among
his studies were Comparitive Edu-
cation, Contemporary World Af-
fairs, Political Geography, and
Methods and Materials of Educa-
tional Research. Mr. Vassia teaches
Junior High School Geography.
Mr. Samuel Davenport of 137
South Maple Avenue, Kingston,
Pennsylvania attended Bucknell
University for further work toward
Lake-Lehman Columns

Lake-Lehman releases columns
weekly to two area newspapers,
The Dallas Post and The Sunday
Independent. Editor of ‘‘ Lake-Leh-
man High School News” in The
Dallas Post this year will be Mary
Ann Kuchemba. Jay Ruckel will
be editor of the column to appear
in The Sunday Independent.
Assistant editors for the columns
are chosen from interested Juniors
who submit a trial column in the
beginning of the school year. The
assistant editors automatically be-
come editors of the columns when
the present editors resign.
All columns must be approved
by the student coordinator of pub-
lications, Pat Kanasky, and Miss
Huttenstine, sponsor of the Jour-
nalism Club at Lake-Lehman.

Post has enlisted the talent of Back
Mountain students and their
teachers in the compiling of copy
for this annual Back To School
Issue.
When the call was made to Don
Evans, Social Studies Director at
Dallas High School and instructor
of a special creative writing course
this summer, his interest and
response was immediate.
Miss Marion Huttenstein of
Lake-Lehman was also contacted.
Miss Huttenstein is the English
instructor in the high school. The
wheels began to turn in the direc-
tion of the best Back To School
Tabloid ever produced.

Argentina Girl To Attend
Lake-Lehman School

For the first time in the history of the high school a foreign
exchange student will attend Lake-Lehman this year. Esther
Avilia, a native of Argentina, will be a member of the Senior
Class taking the academic couyse. She will be in the Spanish
IV class and it is hoped that she will act as an informant of
Spanish-American customs to the
class. Before coming to the United
States as an exchange student
Esther graduated from high school
in Argentina. She attended Hazle-
ton High School for a short period
of time previous to coming to Lake-
Lehman.
While attending Lake-Lehman,
Esther will live with two families.
Mrs. Anthony Marchakitus and
daughter. Mr. Marchakitus is
Lake-Lehman High School prin-
cipal and Mrs. Marchakitus is
Spanish teacher at the high school.
When she leaves the Marchakitus’
Esther will reside with Mr. and
Mrs. John Fielding and family
until she returns home in early
December.
First, she will reside with Mr. and
Journalism Club Plans
This Year's Publications
The Journalism Club of Lake Lehman High School is presently
planning this year’s publications. These publications consistofthe news-
paper “Crusader,” the handbook “Knight's Code,” and the magazine
“The Trubador.” The Club also supervises two weekly newspaper
columns in local publications.
Four members of the Journalism Club atfended the Annual High
School Communications Conference Center at the Pennsylvania State
University. Another member was one of two Pennsylvaniansto attend a
Journalism Conference at Syracuse University in New York.
Formed only last year, the Club has already turned out an award
winning newspaper. The ‘Crusader’ which is a monthly publication,
shared third place honors with Forty Fort High School at the King’s
College Journalism Workshop.
The “Troubador” which was begun last year also holds promise of
becoming a bi-monthly magazine. It consists of student contributions in
the field of art, poetry, short stories and essays.
Officers of the club are editors of the various publications with Presi-
dent Pat Kanasky as Student Co-ordinator of publications; Vice Presi-
dent Alan Landis, Editor of the ““Crusador’; Secretary Sandy Steele,
Editor of the “Knight's Code’’; Treasurer Susan Fielding, Editor of the
“Troubador.”’ Miss Marion Huttenstine is the Club Advisor.
