Mormon Pageant Attracts
Country-wide Audience
Mormons from the State of Utah,
planning to attend the Hill Cumorah
Pageant August 7, 8, 9, and 10 at
Palmyra, N. Y., will camp ‘in a near-
by field, where space is available for
tents and trailers, for the duration
of the pageamt.
Performance starts each night at
9, preceded by a musical program
in which recordings from the world-
famous Mormon Choir will be’ a fea-
ture. (
The pageant lasts for about an
hour and a half. Motel accommodat-
ions will be strained to the limit
Allow at least a half hour to get out
of the parking lot and on the high-
way. For those coming from this |
area, it will be next to impossible
to start home before around eleven ;
o'clock.
The spectacle attracts visitors
from all over the country. Parking
is free, admission and seating free.
“and there is no carnival atmosphere.
Thousands of people attend, so it is
wise to park in plenty of time for the
pre-pageant musical program, to a-
void disappointment.
YMCA Day Camp Plans
Final Period Aug. 3
Back Mountain YMCA Day Camp-
ers ‘toured the Avoca Airport on
Wednesday.
Monday, August 5 begins the final
two week period of Day Camp.
There are still openings for interest-
ed boys and girls in the area. Ex-
perienced counselors and a ‘Senior
Life ‘Saver during the swim period
conduct a full program of games,
crafts and sports.
Faster Star Auction Exceeds
Expectations, Nets Over $1,150
A brief shower failed to dampen
enthusiasm Saturday afternoon at
the Eastern Star Auction, patrons
scattering for a few minutes, but
returning for more bidding on the
grounds of Mr. and Mrs. Ziba Smith
after huddling under tent flaps and
taking refuge in the house.
The Little Red Wagon, parked
conspicuously alongside the road as
' a come-on during the days before
the auction, went to Ben Rood of
Harveys Lake during the final min-
utes of the sale just before mid-
night, bringing in over four times
its purchase price in chances. The

Somebody got a bargain in a
collector's item, a small jointed
bisque doll that had been smother-

turned in to the auction at the
Eastern ‘Star picnic.
Antiques were snapped up at
tremendous bargains, carnival ware,
interesting lamps, fine china and
glass.

dropped dead early Friday evening
in Broadway. Mouth to mouth re-
susciatation and administration of
oxygen failed to revive Ralph G.
Kocher, of Pleasant Valley, who was
pronounced dead on arrival at Nan-
ticoke Hospital.
A kitchen" shower for his bride-'
to-be, Carol Zimmerman of Broad-

. same e¢vening, with another shower
to follow Saturday night. The home
and furniture had been bought,
bridesmaid dresses and wedding

lions in the mail.
Mr. Kocher had had no previous
illness. He had suffered a blow from
the steering wheel of his car about
five: ‘months earlier, but had not
seemed injured. A postmortem re-
vealed a slight cardiac cciadition and
a chest complication.
He was born in Dallas, son of
Walter L. and Frances E. Harvey
Kocher. Educated at Northwestern
school, he had worked first in a
garage and later at Karen Sports-
wear ‘in Harveyville. Member of
Broadway Methodist Church, he was

He leaves his parents; a brother
Walter Jr. at home; sisters Mrs.

Rev. Fred Hickok officiated at
services held Tuesday from the Bron-

Pallbearers were Thomas and
Ralph Harvey, Dale Kingsbury, Rob-

Wayne Dennis.
Sr. and Jr., assisted by Skip Har-
