State Vice President
Frances Slocum Society, Chil-
dren of the American Revolution,
received two state awards, a first
for Radio-Television Work, and a
second for Press Relations, at the
nineteenth annual convention of the
Pennsylvania State Division in Un-
iontown, Besides the business sess-
ions there was a swim party and pic-
nic, a luncheon, a tour, and a din-
ner-dance.
The local society saw its vice
president, Deborah Rogers, elected
to the state office of Central District
Vice President.
A resolution sponsored by the
local group urging the state society
to support the nation-wide cam-
paign for Fourth of July bell-ringing
was passed unanimously.
The family of Dr. Lewis L. Rogers
3rd, Shavertown, attended the con-
ference en masse. Making the trip,
besides the Doctor and his wife
were Patricia, the local society’s
president; Deborah, the vice presi-
dent; Lewis and Susan; Mrs. Coray
Miller, past regent of the Wyoming
Valley Chapter, DAR, which spon-
sors ‘the local group, and Mrs. Ed-
gar May.
‘All the local young people were
| voting delegates.
The mext meeting of the Frances
Slocum Society will be held in July
at Mehoopany, where a report on
the convention will be given.

Lewin Grandchildren
Honored At School
Dorothy Janus Lewin, daughter
of Colonel and Mrs. Walter W.
Lewin of Riverside, Calif." was one
of ten of the 462 graduates of Cen-
tral Junior High School to be nomi-
nated to the Honor Student Group
for the Freshman year of 1963.
Janus was also first-place winner
in the Spanish Comprehension Field
Day at Valley View College in San
Bernardino, where all schools in
Southern California were repre-
sented and competed in the Field
Day; Janus receiving a gold cup
for being a first-place winner.
As an art student, her drawing
for the cover for the Commence-
ment exercises was selected.
Walter W. Lewin, Jr., is current-
ly attending the summer program
of Academically Gifted Students at
Gage Junior High School.
Both students are grandchildren
of the late Mrs. Anna M. Lewin of
