At Birthday Dinner
Mrs. Laverna M. Mekeel, Lehman,
entertained at a dinner party at
the Towne House Lounge, honoring
her daughter, Joanne, who observed
her sixteenth birthday, April 10.
The group enjoyed dancing, and a
buffet dinner served by candlelight.
Centerpiece of the main table was
the traditional birthday cake, bear-
ing the inscription ‘Happy Birthday
Joanne,” decorated in pink, white
and green. Adorning the table was
a bouquet of sixteen red roses, a
gift to the honoree from her father,
Warren Mekeel, Baltimore, Md.

Girl Scouts Enjoy Hike
End Outdoor Lunch
Happy Wanderers Patrol, Troop
201, enjoyed a hike Saturday. They
visited the fire tower, which is be-
hind the Irem Temple Cowatry Club,
coming back to the picnic grounds
for. a bag lunch, which included
roasting marshmallows over the
fire. The hike was held so that
the troop might be eligible for ‘a
badge. Participating were: Jan
Bittenbcinder, Doreen Daring, Nancy
Thomas, Joy Harris, Joan Farley,
Elaine Kuehn, Carol Hozempa, Carol

one son, Warren, living in Cort-
land, N. Y., with his wife and fam-

and Jay is in Las Vagas, Nevada.
There are four granddaughters, one
married and living in Washingtcn,

Forty-four Years On Friday
and Mrs. August Johnson, Bloss-
burg. Mr. Brown is son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brown, Dor-
anceton. Prior to retiring, Mr.
Brown worked for the Transit Com-
pany for thirty-three years and for
the past nine years, he was em-
ployed with the Elmira City Schools.
However a serious illness forced him
to retire.
They have lived in Elmira for
the past nine years and recently
returned to their home cia Parrish
Street where they lived many years
previous ‘to going to Elmira. They
