~ WCTU Holds Institute
At Lehman Methodist
Three new members joined the
Dallag WCTU during the Institute
held April 16 at Lehman Methodist
Church, and Minnie Hoover was
given a corsage for long and faith-
ful membership.
Luncheon was served by Mrs. H.
A. Brown and Mrs. Raymond Sear-
foss, following the morning session,
which was presided over by Mrs.
Russell Hoover. Mrs. Edith Hoover
led devotions, Mrs. Elizabeth Mil-
brodt salute to the flag. Mrs.
George May was pianist.
Presiding over the-afternoon ses-
sion was Mrs. Gerald Cragle, Sweet
Valley. Mrs. Zel Garinger tied
white ribbons to the wrists of sev-
eral infants.

Spiritual Life Retreat
At Skinner's Eddy
Spiritual Life Retreat will be held
April 30 at Skinner's Eddy Meth-
odist Church, according to Mrs.
William Reid, Jr., Wilkes-Barre
District WSCS Spiritual Life Sec-
retary. Mrs. W. Harold Sloan,
Athens, Spiritual Life Secretary of
Wyoming Conference will be the
Leader. The theme will be “Finding
God.”
In keeping with the observance
of the 225th anniversary of John
Wesley's “heart-warming experience
at Aldersgate,” all hymns used will
be those written by John or Charles
Wesley. The opening worship serv-
ice will be taken from John Wes-
ley’s Sunday service of worship.
Women are asked to bring a box
lunch. Coffee, tea and cookies will
be provided. Hours are from 10:00
am. to 2 p.m.

Don Finney, 72,
Has Heart Attack
Headed Trucksville
Firemen 19 Years
One of Trucksville’s most active
citizens, S. Donald Finney, 72, died
Saturday morning in Nesbitt Hos-
pital following a heart attack suf-
fered several hours earlier at his
home.
Mr. Finney and his wife had re-
turned home Friday evening from
Lancaster where they had visited
their son, Fred and family over
Easter. He was taken to the hos-
pital in the Kingston Township
ambulance.
Mr. Finney had been one of the
stalwarts of the Trucksville Fire
Company, serving as its president
for nineteen years until failing
health forced retirement two years
ago. The Firemen's Fairs sponsored
for a number of years by the local
unit were highly successful due to
his efforts.
Mr. Finney had served as presi-
ville Methodist Church, and was
active in the Lather’s Union, acting
for some time as its business agent.
In his spare hours, he devoted
much time to gardening, cultivating
some of the loveliest roses to be
found in the Back Mountain, a hob-

An ardent fisherman, he made
a trip to Canada last year with
friends, returning with a beautiful
catch. *
Mr. Finney was born in Kingston,
son of the late George and Marian
MacLaud Finney.
A resident of Trucksville for 62
years, Mr. Finney married the for-
mer Hilda Hagaman, also of Trucks-
ville, 48 years ago:
In addition to his wife, two chil-
dren survive: Marian, Wilmington,
Delaware; Fred, Lancaster; five
granddaughters and ohe great-
grandson; two sisters: Maude Fin-
ney and Mrs. Corey Patton, Kings-
ton; one brother, Raymond, Trucks-
|| ville.
Services were conducted Tuesday
afternoon with Rev. Robert Ger-
mond officiating. Interment was at
Memorial Shrine.
Pallbearers were Jack Evans,
John Parrish, William Strange,
Edward Hartman, Jacob Harrison,
Thomas Evans, all fellow members
of Trucksville Volunteer Fire Com-
pany.

Correspondence School, beginning
May 7 at 7:30, running twelve weeks
and designed to help students mem-
orize verses from the Bible.

the affair a humorous reading by
Mrs. William Shewan.
Selections by the Wilkes Barons,
a male quartet, will also be featured,
interesting the men of the com-
munity as well as the women.
Mrs. Shaver and Mrs. Hontz are

Killed In Collision
At Leesburg, Virginia
Marion Jackson Reeves, daughter
of Mrs. Clark Jackson and the late
Mr. Jackson of Centermorelaind, lost
her husband Thursday, when he was
killed in a head-on collision at Lees-
burg, Va. Mr. Reeves 38, who had
left home just fifteen minutes before
the crash, was buried in Arlington
Cemetery with military rites, Mon-
day.

Annual meeting of Wyoming
Conference WSCS is scheduled for

Lose Infant Grandchild
‘Word has been received from Mrs.
William Trewern that her grandson,
six . months old Roger ' Gerald
Schmitt, passed away cn Palm Sun-
day. The parents are Mr. and Mrs.
Gerald Schmitt, of Chicago. Mrs.
Schmitt is the former Sylvia Trew-
ern, formerly of Shavertown. The
Trewerns moved to Chicago fairly
recently.

Less than three months after the
death of his wife Marian, Charles
W. Weidner, 66, passed away on
Mcinday at Wyoming Valley Hos-
pital, where he had been admitted
the day beofre Easter. |
{Services are scheduled for today
at 11 a.m. from the Hughes Funeral
Home in Forty Fort, Rev. George
Andrews officiating. Burial will be
at Memorial Shrine.
Mr. Weidner, East Center Hill
Road, was a resident of Wilkes-Barre
for many years before moving to
Dallas. He retired last May after
employment as electrician with the
Glen Alden Coal Co. for 43 years.
He belonged to Westminster Presby-
terian Church.
Born in Luzerne, he was son of
the late William and Susan David
Weidner.
Surviving are daughters, Mrs.
Jack H. Stanley, Dallas; Mrs. Rich-
ard Schlenker, Wheaton, Md.: seven
grandchildren; brother, Robert. Har-
veys ‘Lake; sister, Mrs. Roland Kes-
ter, Shavertown; stepmother, Mrs.
William Weidner, Kunkle; step-
brothers, Howard Marr, Newark;
Franklin Marr, Harveys Lake; half
sisters, Mrs. James Price, Northum-
berland; Mrs. Merle Anderson, Bear
Creek; Mrs. Harry Edwards, Wash-
ingtem; Mrs. Anthony Gorka, Har-
veys Lake,
Mrs. Rose Weilenbeck
Lies At Cedar Crest
Mrs. Rose Weilenbeck, Trucksville,
patient at Davis Nursing Home at
Mountaintop for the past two years,
died Monday morning aged 80, two
weeks before she and her husband
would have observed ‘their 62nd
wedding anniversary. Mr. Weilen-
beck is a patient at Veterans Hos
pital.
Burial was yesteray afternoon in

was born in Philadelphia, daughter
of the late August and Selma Whitt-
werth.
