Less than a year after her hus-
band Clifford died last May while
spraying his appleorchard at Moore-
town, Mrs. Anna L. Stroud passed
away Tuesday afternoon at General
Hospital where she had been ad-
mitted ‘the preceding Thursday.
Mrs. Stroud, who would have been
71 March 23, had failed in health
since Clifford’s death.
Services will be conducted to-
morrow at 2 p.m. from the Bron-
son Funeral Home, where friends
may call thig afternoon and evening.
Rev. James Garrahan and Rev, Ro-
land Updyke will officiate. Burial
will be in Wardan Cemetery.
Mrs. Stroud was born in Ross
Township, daughter of the late
Ernest and Myrtle Wandell Wilkin-
son. She graduated from Sweet
Valley Academy, and for a time
taught in the one-room schoolhouse
at Boardway.
For fifty years she helped build
up the apple orchard and the farm
known as Stroud’s Acres on route
118, where corn, vegetables and |
fruit in season were sold from a
neat roadside stand at the crest
of the long winding road near
Mooretown. In 1961, the couple
celebrated their Golden Wedding
with an overflowing Open-House.
Mrs. Stroud was a member of
Maple Grove Methodist Church,
where she taught Sunday School
and belonged to the women’s or-

sylvania State University reported
on the extensive work being done
in connection with the disease on
Chestnut oak. The possibility of
this species being connected with
spread of the disease to trees of the
Red and Black oak group had seri-
ous consideration.
Research, workers from West
Virginia University reported on the
favorable results obtained from the
diseased trees to prevent spore, the
formation that is responsible for long
distance spread of the disease.
Both groups of research workers
outlined proposed studies for the
coming season that are designed to
reveal new data concerning physi-
ological aspects of the disease and
its spread. These would concern
temperature, humidity, wind and
weather conditions. Other work re-

damage to coniferous plantations.
