regular services being grounded,
read many telegrams sent to Father
Kane by well wishers, including
Bishop Jerome D. Hannan and

“Man is never an island unto
himself,” he said, ‘The shores of
man’s concern reach from commu-

world. In the contest called life,
those with strong convictions of
right and wrong prove to be the
cornerstone of our community. The
vigor of our institutions produces
men upon whom rest the welfare
of every level of society. Righteous-
ness makes a nation great. The
heritage of men of vision and mercy
shall live and remain forever.”
Judge Shiffman revealed that he
‘had been a debating comrade of
Father Kane during school days
and. their friendship had continued
through the years. He also paid
tribute to the late Howard Risley.
A remarkable likeness, captured
in oils, was presented to Father
Kane by Carol Polacky, a member
of his parish.
