Northerners or = ME DALLAS POST, THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 10963 Benton Christian Church Issues Invitation To Rev. Charles Frick FERS Rev. Charles H. “Frick a defi and the pastorate ‘Christian. Church. He will go to the Benton Christian Church sometime during February. Rev. Frick says that it will be an inspiration to see new faces and meet a new challenge. At an age when most men are coddling them- selves, this Christian stalwart is looking forward to many more years of preaching. Benton is en- thusiastic about his plans, He likes Benton. It is a quiet town, settled largely by retired farmers and residents of rural par- entage. A down to eafth com- munity, typifying the best of American background, its feet solid- ly on the ground. Rev. Frick says blithely, “I can now turn my barrel of sermons over, and start from the bottom, with no danger that I will be re- peating myself. And what a feel ing of relaxation that gives an old war-horse.” - Then he added: ‘You know, I was born on the Mason-Dixon Line, in’ a church. I'm the only Ameri- All the rest of you are Southerners. I'm right in the middle.” A little probing brought forth the information that Rev. Frick’s father was an aspiring young min- nitely decided ‘to leave the area | of Huntsville | | | Toten Robot was allowed room a board in the frame house which had a church in its front room, and a chance to go to college, if he would in return preach each Sunday to the microscopic congregation. Until he was six years old, young Charles lived there in the church. When he was pastor of Wyoming Avenue Christian Church, he also served Huntsville. During the War years, he was chaplain in the serv- ice, and upon being relieved, of duty, he built up a Christian Church at Mt, Rainier, Maryland, leaving it over the protests of the congregation to return te Hunts ville. Elders of the Benton Church came in a body to call upon their chosen pastor. Their vote was un- animous. Benton is not too far away. People from this area will find it easy to drive down to Benton to see their favorite minister. Rev. and Mrs. Frick both cast a backward look at the view from the Huntsville parsonage. ‘What other parsonage has such a beautiful lo- cation?” they ask each other. But when the time comes to move, the die is cast. It will be a rest, they both agree. And the Benton church is enthusi- astic about attracting a man of Rev. Frick’s calibre. The new ranch-type parsonage at Emmanuel Assembly of God proved snug and warm in the face of sub- zero weather, baseboard hot water radiation completely adequate. Rev. and Mrs. George Clement moved into their new quarters December 13, six months after ground. was broken in June. Men of the church offered their labor as a contribution, not more than $500 being expended in addition. New Parsonage Proves Snugly Warm In Bitter Winds, Sub-Zero Weather | ‘complete with separate entrance from outside. | In addition to the six room par- sonage quarters on the main floor, there is a lower floor assembly hall designed for gatherings of young people and other church projects, Remaining to be constructed is a retaining wall between church and parsonage, a, project which will not be attempted until spring.
