Mt. Zion
It has always been a principle
of mine never to apologize for a
sermon I knew was poorly done.
The apology would only highlight
the poverty of the sermon; and
without the apology someone might
even think the sermon good! So
why should I tell the readers of
Dallas Post that I didn’t feel like
getting out and getting a lot of
news? My nose for news was run-
ning too fast the past few weeks.
But I wag thankful last Sunday
that this same nose didn’t drip once
all day, letting me attend church
and Sunday School and the Christ-
mas program ‘ate Mt. Zion in the
afternoon. My nose didn’t run «dur-
ing the Christmas program but my
eyes did! For there were two
trumpets taking part, one by Larry
Earl and the other by Hal Seiple.
When in “Joy to the World” Larry
did a beautiful descant and Hal
accompanied the air my nerves of
delight did a double flip, and talk
about goose pimples or duck bumps,
or chicken skin or whatever you
want, I had it! My eyes ran over
the way my brother’s eyes do when
he hears bagpipes. To Ruth I said,
“Don can have his bagpipes; I'll
have the trumpets!” Well the whole
program was done in fine fashion
and everybody was happy. Santa
Claus was welcomed by one and
all. Who was he? Well, Santa
Claus himself of course.
Christmas Caroling
The MYF of Mt. Zion had an-
nounced it was going out caroling
and if others wanted to join them
please assemble at the church. So
they did — 35 in all. Howard Dy-
mond drove the bus as he knows
how to handle and park it. When
they had gone all over the country-
side, and In most cases they all
piled out and grouped to sing, they
returned to the church where two
of their number, Jean Hronich and
Mildred VanTuyle, had prepared the
kind of refreshments needed for
sung-out young folks. The occasion
took on added interest on account
of its being Chucky John’s (the
all helped him celebrate. Here's a
list of those in the company:
and Mrs. Howard Dymond, Linda,
Gary and Terry Dymond, Mrs. Clay-
ton Grey, Carol Conklin, Mrs. Wm.
Alling, Nancy and Betsy Alling,
Mrs. Jack VanTuyle, Jackie and
Mark VanTuyle, Mrs. Marie LaBar,
Gene and Sharon LaBar, Mrs. Har-
old Seiple and Hal Seiple, Mrs. Ben
Daniels and Donald Daniels, Karen
and Michael Hronich, Tommy and
Margaret Marcy, Bill Miles, Carol
Sutton, Susan LaBar, Nadine Van-
Tuyle, Wayne Scull, Wayman Smith,
Michael Bell, Charles Johns, Cath-
erine Gilbert, Mark Yanchunas,
Donald Parry, Jean Hronich, Mil-
dred VanTuyle.
My correspondence has spiraled
up to a stack of things to do from
now on until it is answered. My
Gilbert Story which goes to a list
of 400 includes relatives on both
sides of the house, many friends of
Dottie’s across the country, former
parishioners, has brought many re-
sponses by way of appreciations,
and many Christmas greetings, all
make us realize how many friends
we have around the world. No, we
are not ready for Christmas, never
have been. But Christ did really
come. ‘He came to His own, and
they that were His own received
Him not.” In our own grateful but
unworthy way we have received
Him and how He has blessed us!
Happy New Year!
