To Be Paid In Silver
More than 50,000 silver dollars
have been delivered to the North-
eastern National Bank for use in the
promotion. In connection with the
sweepstakes, all employees of Giant
Markets were paid in silver dol-
lars on Saturday.
The payroll in silver dollars
gave an indication of the financial
value of the chain to the community
and the growth of the company
since the first market was opened
on December 8, 1932, in a convert
ed garage at 1007 Capouse Avenue,
Scranton.
That first market was ovnerned by
M. L. Hodin and Sam Hodin, both
still actively engaged in the man-
cavgse of their interest in home-
making and community leadership
and because they represent two dif-
ferent generations.
In connection with the anniver-
